- What TripAdvisor Inside Is
Welcome to TripAdvisor Inside! This is a new part of our site where our members can share knowledge with other travelers. In this area, members can add, update and edit content for attractions, restaurants and destinations.
TripAdvisor believes that real travelers are the best source of travel information, which is why we are putting the power to control the content in your hands
For example, if you go to the Inside London page, you will see many options for pages to edit or create, such as "Public Transportation." By clicking there, you can update that page with a description of the "The Tube" or your favorite bus route. From here, you can choose other London topics and contribute your helpful hints for things to do in the area, favorite restaurants, must-see museums or overlooked shows.

- What TripAdvisor Inside Is Not
-
A substitute for Traveler Reviews. TripAdvisor Inside isn't the place to post your opinions. If you'd like to write your opinions of a hotel, restaurant or attraction, you should write a review instead.
-
A chatroom. TripAdvisor Inside isn't the place to connect with others from your hometown, share stories about adventures in the Alps or ask about the best places to eat in Washington, D.C. If you would like to discuss these topics, a great place to do that is in our Forums.
-
An editorial page.TripAdvisor Inside isn't a place for religious, ethical, or political arguments or opinions, so please stick to travel-related facts.

- How It Works
TripAdvisor Inside content is added and edited by you, our members. Simply register on TripAdvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com/MemberSignIn) and you're ready to write! Once you've signed in, you can edit a page, add a page, upload photos and more. Remember, TripAdvisor Inside pages are not reviews, nor are they a discussion board; you can click the write a review link or visit our Forums area at any time to enjoy these other features. TripAdvisor Inside pages are for factual information, helpful hints about an area, or photos that you add, edit and manage.
Here are some helpful hints on how to start using the TripAdvisor Inside pages.
To contribute a page about the history of Los Angeles:
- Search for "Los Angeles" on TripAdvisor's homepage. Click on the search result link.
- Toward the middle of the page, you'll see the section called "Inside Los Angeles." Click on the "Write about Los Angeles" link.
- To write about the history of Los Angeles, navigate to the (top) section called "Background."
- Click on the link called "History."
- Click the pencil icon which says, "Edit." Start writing!
Now let's say you want to add a completely new page - for example, a special page about driving in Los Angeles:
- Search for "Los Angeles" on TripAdvisor's homepage. Click on the search result link.
- Toward the middle of the page, you'll see the section called "Inside Los Angeles." Click the "Write about Los Angeles" link.
- Navigate to the section called "Transportation" and choose a sub-topic such as "Getting Around."
- On the right-hand side, navigate to the section called "Actions."
- Choose to "Add a new page to this topic."
- Name your page, for example, "Best Rush Hour Shortcuts." Start writing!
To edit an existing page:
- Navigate to the "Actions" section on that page (as noted above) and choose "Edit this Page." Or click the pencil icon that says "Edit."
To describe your edits to other members:
- Use the "Comments" box on the bottom left of the "Edit" page. This is a great place to note that you corrected a typo, added a photo, etc.
You will find more specifics about editing and formatting pages in our Help section.

- The Basic Rules
- To create or edit a page, you must register on our site, and you must be at least 13 years old.
- You may not post anyone else's contact information or the real name of any other member. We do not recommend you post your own, either.
- You may not impersonate TripAdvisor staff. Screen names and post content should not contain anything that would indicate you work for TripAdvisor. If TripAdvisor wants to contact members, share an announcement or solicit feedback, we will always make ourselves known as official staff members. If you have questions or comments for us, we would love to hear them; please e-mail support@tripadvisor.com.
- We reserve the right to remove any content for any reason. However, our members are encouraged to get personally involved and edit TripAdvisor Inside pages themselves.
TripAdvisor Inside content must be:
- Family-friendly. No profanity, threats, prejudiced comments, hate speech, sexual language or explicit descriptions, or other non-family-friendly content. No reports of deaths, violent criminal activity or participation in drug-related activity.
- Original and not in violation of anyone else's copyright. It's your guide -- we want to hear it in your own words! Short quotations from other sources are generally acceptable, but attribution is essential, preferably with a link to the source.
Do not post copyrighted material, trademarks, passwords, confidential information or intellectual property of any other person. This includes photos. Please see our Photo Submission Guidelines.
- Relevant and factual. No personally insulting language and/or descriptions and no smear campaigns. This is not a forum for general political, ethical or religious opinions. We will remove questions or comments directed to TripAdvisor staff, other TripAdvisor members or property representatives.
- Non-commercial. No self-promotional material of any kind, including website addresses and e-mail addresses. We allow links to pages outside of TripAdvisor, but we can only maintain this if it is not abused. If you aren't sure if something is non-commercial, please e-mail support@tripadvisor.com to ask our editors.
- Written in English.

TripAdvisor Inside General Questions
- What is the philosophy behind TripAdvisor Inside? Does TripAdvisor really want everyone editing their website?
- We believe the best travel information comes from real travelers. We're known for our Traveler Reviews and Forums, but we've noticed that since our Forums are so active, some of the best information gets buried over time. We created TripAdvisor Inside to give you another place to share your valuable knowledge with others. The answers to many commonly asked questions can now be found here, where they are much more visible and easy to find.
We trust that our members will write great content and help us get rid of anything that's not so great. Might you see something a bit inaccurate? Sure, but in a matter of seconds you can edit it yourself to make it right.
- Is the information here correct?
- Multiple members may be making changes throughout a day. Therefore, it is possible for incorrect information to be posted. However, with the volume of traffic on TripAdvisor, any questionable content will most likely be changed by one of our members. We encourage you to contribute to the site if you see posted content that is incorrect, out of date or not-quite-right. Or, let us know about it by using the Report Inappropriate Content link.
- I would like to post a review of this location/attraction. Where can I go?
- I would like to get more information about a location/attraction from locals. Where can I go?
- You can ask your questions in our Forums area. We have Local Experts in many of the Forums who will help you get familiar with using Forums and can assist in answering your questions.
- Can I write about hotels in the TripAdvisor Inside pages?
- We already have great member-submitted content in our Hotel sections from our traveler review contributions. TripAdvisor Inside covers general tourist advice, attractions, things to do and restaurants in a particular destination.
- I am the author of content that is being used on TripAdvisor Inside without my permission. How can I get it removed?
- Can you help me get in touch with another member?
- Unfortunately, no. Our privacy policy doesn't permit us. We cannot provide personal information such as screen name, e-mail address or location to another member (or to anyone else). Please use TripAdvisor Inside frequently and we bet you'll bump into whoever you're looking for again soon!
- How do I contact TripAdvisor regarding feedback for TripAdvisor Inside?
TripAdvisor Inside Usage Questions
- Do I have to register to make an edit or post new content?
- Yes, you must be a registered member of TripAdvisor to contribute to TripAdvisor Inside. If you are already a Tripadvisor member, you may simply log in using your screen name. If you would like to register to use TripAdvisor Inside, you may do so by clicking here to Register Now.
- Someone is constantly reverting/changing my work. Can you stop them?
- Our automatic filters will stop anyone from making too many changes too quickly. Avoid getting involved in back-and-forth reversions (sometimes called reversion wars) and continue to post the information you want to share. Check members' feedback in the Comments section and make sure your content meets our guidelines before you post it again.
Also, it is possible that there are two conflicting schools of thought about a particular issue. If this is the situation, the page should explain the difference of opinion and both sides should be given equal space to make factual statements.
- I think there should be a page about XYZ. Can you please create one?
- You can create one yourself! Find the location on TripAdvisor and visit that city's TripAdvisor Inside pages. From here you can add or edit pages under various topics. Please see TripAdvisor Inside Help for specifics on how to create new pages.
- What should I do if someone has written something inaccurate or offensive?
- Edit it! This is yours to manage and the content is easily changed. We hope that you will take the initiative to remove or edit content you find objectionable.
However, there is also a "Report Inappropriate Content" link in each TripAdvisor Inside section, if you simply want to report it to us. We will evaluate each submission on an individual basis. We read everything you send us, but we regret that we can't send personal replies to inappropriate content reports.
- What happens if two people are trying to edit a page at the same time?
- If you click to edit a page that another member is editing, you will receive a message asking you to return later. You will be able to see the most current version of the page before you choose to add your content. While you are editing a page, others may not change it, so please try to save your work as soon as you're finished!
- Oops, I changed or reverted something and I really didn't mean to do it! How can I fix it?
- No problem. Go back to the edit page and scroll down. At the bottom of the page, you will see all the versions that have ever existed for the page in question. Simply find the version you want to appear instead of the current one, check the box to choose that version and hit Save.
- I just wrote something, and checked back later to find that it is gone. What happened?
- Another member edited your work. If you want your version to appear again, go back to the edit page and scroll down. At the bottom of the page, you will see all the versions that have ever existed for the page in question. Simply find the version you want to appear instead of the current one and hit the "Rollback" link beside it. This will revert the page to the earlier version.
- I'm using Safari and I'm getting an error message. What's up?
- This product may not support all browsers. Safari and IE on the Macintosh in particular have known issues that we are working on. In the meantime, we ask that you try TripAdvisor Inside using Firefox.
- I tried to edit a page and it wouldn't let me. What should I do?
- Occasionally, we may need to disable access to a particular page. Please check back soon to see if the page is editable. If you have questions about why a particular page is unavailable, please e-mail our support team at support@tripadvisor.com.
- I am having a dispute with another writer, and it's getting sort of ugly. Can you help me?
- Please try to resolve disputes in the Comments area of the page you're arguing about or in our Forums (we recommend taking up the issue in Off-Topic Chatter). We will not get involved unless we see that a serious attempt to do this has been made.
