If you’re flying to Georgia, almost every national airline flies into the Hartsfield International Airport , which is about 15 miles south of Atlanta. Carriers include Delta, America West, American, British Airways, Continental, KLM, Lufthansa, Northwest, United, and US Airways. The state of Georgia is also served by Amtrak trains and Greyhound and Trailways buses.

From Atlanta, you can drive to Macon via I-75 south. The trip takes less than 90 minutes, and the roads are well-marked. (You can also fly into Savannah, via American, Delta, United, and US Airways, but from there it’s a two- and-a-half hour drive to Macon.)

If you’re driving in from other directions, keep in mind that I-75 divides Georgia from Dalton in the north to Valdosta in the south; I-95 runs north and south along the eastern coast; I-16 runs east and west from Savannah to Macon; and I-20 runs from the northeast to the southeast in the northern part of Georgia. There are Welcome Centers at several roadside rest stops, where you can pick up information and talk to helpful staff about local attractions, accommodations, and directions.
