Boston has several sources of listings for arts and entertainment. Each has a slightly different personality but they mostly all have the same listings. The only downside to them all is that none are strong for advanced listings. It's best to pick one up when you arrive.

  • Boston Phoenix - This is a weekly "alternative" that comes out every Thursday and is free in news boxes and stores throughout the city. The Phoenix has the most exhaustive listings of this group, with similar content online and in print.
  • Weekly Dig - The Dig, as it is often called, is another alternative weekly and has a little more edge than The Phoenix. Therefore it will usually have different editorial pics and reviews from the week's activities. It also can be found in stores and news boxes throughout the city and comes out on Wednesdays.
  • Boston Globe - The Globe is Boston's daily newspaper with a Calendar insert on Thursdays. The Globe's web site (Boston.com) has strong A&E coverage and more current blogs to supplement the print content.
  • The Improper Bostonian - A humor, lifestyle and listings print-only paper that comes out twice a month and can be found in stores and news boxes throughout the city.
  • Stuff at Night - A more glamorous/lifestyleprint-only paper that has fewer listings and more photos from recent events.
