Among the most popular sports activities in Stone Mountain are hiking and camping in the area's beautiful, 3,200-acre Stone Mountain Park.  It is a favorite destination for travelers as well as for visitors from nearby Atlanta wanting to escape the urban noise and heat, the city being just a short drive away.

For just an $8 parking pass visitors can spend an entire day in the Park's pristine natural environment.  The Park is home to several distinct natural ecosystems, a great draw for nature lovers, and has forests, streams, lakes, and giant outcroppings of bare granite.  Each area is host to a unique variety of flowers, plants, and animals.

Used often by local Boy Scout Troops, the Park's most well-traveled hiking trail, the Cherokee Trail, is six miles long and covers much of the mountain's base area.  Remember when hiking or camping on Stone Mountain to stay on marked paths and set up camp only in designated areas to protect its wildlife and foliage from damage.
