From Delhi, one can travel easily anywhere in India either by plane or train. In Agra lies the famed Taj Mahal, the ultimate symbol of love built by Shah Jahan after the death of his wife, queen Mumtaz. Jaipur, with the capital Rajasthan, is just 300 kms from Delhi. Jaipur displays the culture, art and architecture of Rajasthan. The Hawa Mahal, Amer Palace, Nahargarh fort, and city palace, are all sites worth visiting.
For those seeking escape into nature, the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is located 6 hours from Delhi’s city limits. It is accessible via rail and road. Tourists frequent Bharatpur to see Keoladeo national park, otherwise known as the Bharatpur Birds sanctuary. This impressive sanctuary displays nearly 400 species of birds and many reptiles and animals. The city also holds the Deegh fort and several cultural museums.
There are also three lakes in Haryana, the Badhkal lake, the Dum-Dama lake, the Sohna lake, which are about an hour outside of Delhi. Ideal for picnics and strolls, many locals and tourists alike escape to these parks for relaxation. Though they are not accessible by buses, most people hire taxis to take them to the lakes for a reason price.
