There are not many viable options for public transportation in Delhi. Delhi’s bus system is for thrillseekers only. First of all, buses are notoriously uncomfortable for those whom are not accustomed to them. They are generally overcrowded and driven by, to put it bluntly, maniacs who are willing to risk all to get through much of the hectic Delhi traffic. If one does not know what one is doing, one can easily be mugged or simply trampled by the feverous crowd that tries to get on and off of each crowded bus at each stop. This can be increasingly bad during the rush hour time, but generally from 9 am until 7 pm, all buses are full. Buses are also filled not just with locals, but often animals. Nothing is a surprise on an Indian Bus. There is no safety requirements, often the buses are old, and majority of time they do not have air conditioning and thus, do not smell very appetizing half way through the day. In other words, for an intrepid traveler who wants to get the full feeling of India, a bus may be an experience to relish for one stop. However, if one is intending to take a bus, one should try an air-conditioned coach and try to stick to popular routes. Also, one should avoid taking a bus during rush hours. Also, people should be wary of entering or leaving the bus mid-route because there are rarely seats left and one can easily get trampled if one is not paying attention. Women should note that seats are reserved for them on the left side of the bus.
