Linville Falls

Linville Falls is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and has miles of trails to explore for either the avid hiker or the parkway tourist looking for a good leg-stretcher. There are trials to the upper and lower falls and you could easily spend a day here if you wanted to enjoy all the views and the beauty of this unspoiled area.

Start at the Linville Falls visitor center where the informative and helpful park staff can answer all your questions. There are easy, moderate and strenuous trails in the park. Make sure to read the maps carefully or ask a ranger about trail difficulty. There is plenty to see for hikers of all abilities. Bathrooms and picnic tables are located at the visitor center as well.

The falls are located at Mile Post 316.3 of the Blue Ridge Parkway, north of where U.S. 221 crosses the Parkway and south of where NC 181 crosses the Parkway.

This National Park Service operates a campground one mile north of Linville Falls visitor center. No full hookups are available but there are several water faucets located throughout the campground and a dump station is located in a NPS maintenance area about a quarter mile north of the campground. This is a great little campground for tents, popups and smaller RVs. A few sites can handle large motor homes and fifth-wheels and these are pull-through sites. The campground is clean, grassy, and has lots of shady sites near the river.

If camping’s not your thing or you just need a place to relax while cruising the parkway there’s a picnic area across from the entrance road to the falls. There are many picnic tables along the river, lots of grassy areas and bathroom facilities. This is a great area for families to take a break and unwind for lunch.
