By air:  The major international airport which serves Leipzig and the surrounding area is the Leipzig-Halle International Airport ( http://www.leipzig-halle-airport.de/d... ).  This airport is conveniently located less than seven miles from downtown Leipzig.  Because of this, travelers will find it easy to obtain ground transportation from the airport to their hotel destination.  Such ground transportation includes a commuter train and taxi hire, with the former being less expensive but the latter being more efficient.  Travelers can also opt to rent a car to proceed to their hotel destination.  Please note that you can still use the train ticket you purchased at the airport in the city of Leipzig if it is an MDV-ticket. MDV tickets are valid on trams, buses and regional trains in the respective zone(s) and it is time based. How long it is valid will be printed on the ticket (one from the airport to the central station is valid 2 hours). A MDV ticket from the airport to Leipzig central station (Hauptbahnhof) contains zone 110 which covers the whole area of the city. Price for the ticket is 3,40 EUR (stand January 2008)

By car:  Travelers driving in from the airport with use the A14 Autobahn highway to get to Leipzig.  Travellers coming from North (Berlin area) use highway A9, exit at Leipzig-West/ Günthersdorf and use the B181 to get to the city. Same applies to travellers coming from South.

Alternative arrival options:   Travelers who do not fly (or drive) in to the area will find that they can get to Leipzig via either bus or train.   The bus comes from major nearby cities such as Berlin .   The train also connects to major nearby cities.   The train is quicker than the bus (with the route from Berlin taking approximately two hours) but it is also the more expensive option so travelers will have to weigh the pros and cons of each in order to decide which option is best for them.
