Stanley Park is operated by the city of Vancouver and is a jewel in the city with a wonderful mix of cultivated gardens, playing fields, recreational space and densly wooded forest.
On Dec. 15, 2006, a major windstorm caused major damage to Stanley Park, knocking down hundreds of trees and temporarily closing access to the popular park, except for the seawall paths. Governments and citizens responded with millions of dollars for restoration, which is now (June 2008) well underway.
