Ixtapa is located on the Pacific coast of Mexico. The town was built by the Mexican government as a tourist destination - and it is no wonder. Beaches are beautiful - soft sand, clear seas, and beautiful and varied marine life. Nearby is the small town (sixty thousand residents) of Zihuatanejo - an authentic and charming Mexican fishing village. Shops selling hand made crafts and serving traditional Mexican cuisine line the streets of Zihuatanejo and are well worth visiting. Throughout the Ixtapa area are numerous hotels and resorts fronting the beaches and offer a good value for the traveler. To get a sense of the area and see where the properties are located visit Ixtapa hotel map. (the map shows both Ixtapa and Zihuatenejo resort locations - plotted on a satellite image of the region).
The Ixtapa, Mexico region is easily accessed via their modern airport called Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International. Many U.S. cities offer direct flights.
