“Mostly Good, but some Problems at the Hampton Inn”

Ramada Galloway

Sep 12, 2007
1/1 found this review helpful

I have stayed at many Hampton Inns across the US and overall, I have found them to be quite acceptable, clean, and reasonably priced.

At this Hampton Inn, I encountered more problems than with any other I have ever stayed in.

First, I wasn't able to take advantage of the wedding block rate of a recent wedding that I attended. While calling the hotel directly, they said they had only smoking rooms available for travellers who needed a room for 3 guests. (Upon checking the internet site IMMEDIATELY after the call, there was a non-smoking King bed + sofabed room available).

When I arrived, I found the staff not particularly friendly. When we went to the room, I found it clean, but a little oddly laid out. The King bed was in a separate room with a door. The distance to the bathroom was as FAR away as it could be for the space. Only by walking through the room with the sofabed could one reach the bathroom, whose door was located next to the front door and closet. (The King bedroom had no closet in it or near it).

When my daughter arrived on the second day of our stay, we were pretty surprised when we started to go to bed for the night. The sofabed did NOT have a sheet in it. There were also NO extra pillows for that bed. When we called the front desk, they said there were no pillows or sheets that they could get us.

My husband went to the front desk to see if they had a key to the maids' supply and was told that all the staff had gone for the day and that they could not furnish us with any extra pillows or sheets. Luckily, there was a blanket in the room that my daughter could curl up in, rather than having to sleep directly on the mattress. We also gave her one of our pillows to use.

Considering that this hotel cost us $400 with taxes for 2 nights, I felt like we did not get our money's worth for a room that I had booked for 3 persons to share.

So upon reflection, I feel like there are plenty of choices in the area for me to stay at besides the Hampton Inn, should I come this way again.

“Affordable AC Option”

Quakertown, PA

Stayed here August 4 to see a show at the Borgata that night. It was a much more affordable option to the casino hotels in AC. (The Econo Lodge on the boardwalk was over $300 a night for the weekend.) The Hampton was clean and the staff was friendly and effiicient. Not sure about the complimentary breakfast although I wish we would have checked it out before going over to the adjacent Denny's. If planning to go to the Harrah's, Borgata, or Trump Marina casinos, this hotel is a great option as it was an easy 5 - 10 min drive to any three of them. The boardwalk casinos are about 15 - 20 min depending on the traffic which on weekends in the summer can be insane. It has been years since my husband and I have been to Atlantic City and while we were impressed with all the new restaurants and shopping, AC continues to be seedy. Although hats off to the Borgata....it was very nice and removed from the grit. Didn't get a chance to go over to Harrah's but that looked like it was going to be nice too.

“Rude management”

Ramada Galloway

Aug 22, 2007

The manager named Cliff was extremely rude to me over the phone when I had a question regarding a difference in price quotes. He wouldn't answer any questions, wouldn't allow me to speak and continuously cut me off. When I asked for his name, he threatened to cancel my reservations. I stay at hotels all over the place and I've never ran into this kind of treatment, especially from a General Manager that should be leading by a proper example. Sounds like Hampton Inn should put this manager through some remedial customer relations training. Reading through the rest of these comments, I see others have had a bad experience with rude management at this hotel. The hotel is otherwise decent, reasonably priced and the beds are comfy except the air conditioners are very loud.

Stayed over for a Saturday night. Very clean large room and bathroom. I slept fine. My husband said the AC was too loud. Breakfast was a little disappointing. Lots of carbs to pick from. The hot selection was biscuits and gravy with sausage patties. Who eats that stuff?? Quick check out.

“Excellent Value”

We stopped at the Hampton Inn Absecon on our way back from a family gathering in Cape May. This hotel was very easy to find - right off of the GSP. It was nicely set back from the road so that our room was quiet.

Check in was very quick and friendly, and we received the room we had asked for. The AAA rate of $66.60 was fantastic! Our room was very clean, as was the bathroom. Everything smelled fresh and clean.

The only drawback to the room was that the bed was very uncomfortable. It had a nice duvet cover and a variety of pillows, but neither my husband nor I had a very good night's sleep. Perhaps the beds are being upgraded a few at a time.

Breakfast was excellent, much better than at another Hampton Inn I had stayed at the week before. There were scrambled eggs in addition to the continental offerings, and the choice of coffees was especially good. The host at breakfast was very friendly and obviously worked hard to keep things clean.

Check out was a snap, and the front desk staff was very friendly. We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling near Atlantic City.
