We have stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki twice in the last year and a half. Don't expect a beautifully landscaped resort like the Hyatt on Maui or Kaui, because this hotel is right in the middle of the city of Waikiki. I love this hotel! The people who work there are so nice. They really go out of their way to pass along the Aloha spirit. The location is great - right in the center of the hotel strip. The buffet breakfast was amazingly varied and delicious. Our rate of $182 per night - booked on the Sheraton website - included breakfast for 2 adults or free breakfast for 2 kids and the adults have to pay, but they get a 35% discount. You have to be a Starwood member to get this rate. It's free to join. Both times we stayed there we got a free room upgrade. One time it was to a HUGE room at the end of the hall, and the other time it was to an oceanfront room that faced Diamond Head. The hotel is very large, but there is never a long wait for an elevator. The decor is a bit dated, but still lovely. Also - if you have 3 kids, it's no problem for them to put a rollaway in your room. We loved this hotel and can't wait to go back.

I have to say, truth be told, I loved this hotel. My girlfriend and I went on July 2003 for our 10th Anniversary. However I think the Oceanview rooms are extremely over priced. We were on the 24th Floor with a balcony. The view was breath taking, but I thought we were going to have a Jacuzzi Tub or something else for the price. The room size is exactly like a standard room, the only difference is that it has a balcony the price difference per night can range from $150.00-$200.00 from the standard. We mostly was out and about and hardly stood in the room only to sleep. We should have had a standard room instead for the ocean view price. Again the view was wonderful but not for the price we paid. We nearly or just about paid $400.00 per night. The pools were small, the actually hotel is very attractive. The house keeper we had(Maria) was wondeful and friendly. The room was always clean and the bathroom as well. The exclusive resturant on the 30th floor was beautiful. Great food. The service was spectacular. We had dinner on the last night before returning home to NYC. The view (if you have a table by the window) is breath taking. Go at night, its more romantic and beautiful to look out and see waikiki.

“Sheraton should remove it's name from this place”

I just returned from my stay at this hotel. I am extremely tired but I had to write to keep people from staying at this terrible place. This hotel is an insult to the Sheraton name. The rooms are run down and smelly. I used one of the popular name you price websites and I chose resort. The fact that they consider this property a resort is a blemish to their credibility. I would not stay here again and I will never trust the website I used.

Checked in on Feb. 28th for (5) nights. Was suppose to get buffet greakfast included but was told that they no longer included this in packages. After asking for the manager and showing him the United Brochure that said that it was included (2) cards with breakfast stickers magically appeared. Lobby was attractive; rooms were OK, and high-end restaurant, on 30th floor, poor. Would not stay here again.

“Just a few things to consider...”

I have just returned from a three night stay at the Sheraton Waikiki, part of a two week journey home to the islands (I was born and raised on the Big Island, Hawaii). I work in management with a major hotel chain and have lived in San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New York and Miami, so I feel confident and qualified to comment on the operational standards of hotels. Let me begin by saying that we managers unequivocally DO care about customer service, although some of us are better than other at assuring our guests are well cared for, and that their expectations are met. Furthermore, we do read the comments posted on this site, as well as others. Here are a few tips, from a professional, that will help you make an educated lodging choice. First of all, destermine your needs--so you need to have an ocean view or beach front room? Will a standard room be suitable, or would you do better to upgrade to a deluxe room or suite--be truthful to yourself about your needs; secondly, establish your budget--how much can you comfortably afford to spend (factor in room taxes, parking fees and resort fees if applicable)? Keep in mind that some hotels offer free nights (book four nights, the fifth night is free, or book six nights and receive the seventh night free); third, CAVEAT EMPTOR, let the buyer beware, because you as a consumer are largely responsible for getting what you pay for. Do you homework by cheking rates online, and read everything you can about your potential home away from home. Also, ask friends, family, coworkers or anyone else who has stayed at a particular hotel or rate for an honest evaluation.
