A friend and I stayed at the PK on our first trip to Oahu in Feb 2008. We were originally booked for a city view room but arrived late on our check-in date and were bumped up to an ocean view room. The view from the balcony on one of the highest floors made this a much better hotel experience! Otherwise, we would not have had a view overlooking the gorgeous Waikiki beach! The hotel has a great location a block off the beach. It is walking distance to many great restaurants (try Duke's!!!), shops, and the bus stops. We did not rent a car here and did not need one. The hotel has a small outdoor pool but we didn't mind as the beach is almost right across the street! The front desk staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The hotel has a delicious buffet breakfast which we loved, especially with the outdoor patio tables, but we weren't as crazy about the dinner even thought it was much more expensive. The hotel grounds were beautiful. Overall, a very nice, clean hotel-- if you can get a room on a higher-up floor, I would definitely recommend! The view is more than worth it :)

“great location, nickel and dimed for amenities, room decent but unexceptional”

Sheraton Princess Kaiulani

My wife was attending a conference at the Honolulu convention center, and we booked at this Sheraton basically due to the price and reasonable location. (It is not close to the convention center, but this conference was running a shuttle between the hotels. It would be about a 20 minute walk to the convention center.)

I don't have anything really bad to say about it, but I don't have anything really good to say either. The location is very convenient to Waikiki Beach, shopping and dining. The hotel itself is a pretty basic business type hotel. It is across the street from the beach. From our balcony, we could see a sliver of ocean between the other hotels closer to the beach. The rooms were clean and the staff was polite.

The main negative I'd say is that they really seem to nickel and dime you for everything. For a business oriented hotel that was about $175 a night, charging for WiFi seemed stingy to me. There were some public internet terminals in the lobby, but they were usually occupied, and it's just not the same as being able to use your laptop.

What seemed even more ridiculous was the $3/day charge to use THE ROOM SAFE. There's just no excuse for that. I have stayed in hotels before where you had to pay for internet access, but never for the safe. That just strikes me as gouging, and I socked away my valuables in the sock drawer instead of playing along.

I would not stay here again unless I had Sheraton points to cash in, or all other affordable hotels were booked up. We attended a couple of functions at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and it was much nicer for only slightly more per night. Based on talks with other people from the convention, if we did it again, we would stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Ala Moana, or Westin Moana Surfrider (although the Westin would likely have been out of our price range)

It's not bad... but there are better choices. If you get a good deal on it, it's a decent home base to do things around Hawaii, but you will not find yourself spending time on the hotel grounds like you might at the Hilton or Westin which have their own beach areas.

(Parking was $20/day which did not seem unreasonable for the middle of Honolulu.)

“Totally Recommended!!!!!!!!”

Sheraton Princess Kaiulani

May 8, 2008

My Family and I stayed here for 15 nights without any problem what so ever and 15 nights is quite a long time!!... I chose the cheapest website with the cheapest rate, upon arrival we were upgraded several times to a room with a pool view (nice in the evening with every night a hula band by the pool) The hotel is a little tired looking in parts but not the communal areas...i get the feeling if your not happy about something, they will attempt to do something about it like moving you're room. The pool area is immaculate and will give you towels to take to the beach... Which is just a 2/3 minute walk away, Its also close to bus stops, shops, car rentals in fact anything you could really need... I had one lunch time snack around the pool which was ok, didn't eat much there though. The room was cleaned very well every day and all the staff seemed fine... I dont know how anyone can hate this place, for the money some places charge in waikiki, this is a bargain... In simple terms, this is a better hotel than the price suggests... I would stay here again no problem... In fact i probably will...

“Beware staff gives wrong information”

The hotel offers very basic rooms but quite comfortable. It is located quite central. You can easily reach the beach and shopping area. The staff in the hotel polite but give wrong information. You have to pay 20$ per night for car park. The staff suggested us free parking area, which later on cost us 180$ because of the tow-away area. He didn't informed us about that and the singes are quite small. Beware!

“Happy with our stay and would do it again!”

I found a great rate for this hotel ($129/night) and decided to take a chance. I was considering this or the Ohana and ended up choosing this one because of the pool area and the fact that I could tell that it was directly across the street from the Moana Surfrider. Although the hotel is not one of the new luxury hotels it ended up being a great choice. The location is excellent. We were given room 718 which overlooks the pool and even offers a small view of the ocean. (nonsmoking and king bed as requested) While the room decor itself was fairly old fashioned and basic, it did have a small balcony overlooking the pool and the nightly entertainment. There is a small stage and local bands provide music nightly until 9:30. The weather was perfect for sitting on our balcony and listening to the music. Very pleasant. The room comes with a small tv but we never even turned it on. There is a small fridge, a inroom coffee maker, an iron and ironing board, and a hair dryer. The bed was comfortable and when we called and asked for a lighter blanket and foam pillows they arrived in less than 30 minutes. If you like granite countertops and brand new furniture you might not be happy with the room but we were fine it. We brought our own laptop and verizon internet connections but did think it odd that the hotel doesn't offer free wi-fi. They also charge for the inroom safe which we didn't use. One of the best things about the place is the location. It is right in the middle of the best part of Waikiki (IMHO) Plus we were extremely happy with our view of the pool. The hotel was reasonably quiet and everyone was very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again if we could get the same room and the same price.
