We loved the location of the Hotel and found the staff to be very helpful. We needed a Doctor the first night there and they were able to recommend one that was only a block from the Hotel....

We found the breakfast provided by the hotel to be all we needed....

The room was clean and ready when we arrived......Loved the room and especially the Bathroom.....

It was all we needed in a room.............

“Friendly Staff, Clean room”

ResortQuest Waikiki Joy Hotel

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at this hotel.
I'm giving it above average because the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was surprisingly clean. There were plenty of soft, big towels for us. Toto water-saver toilet that looked brand new.
Staff at the desk was friendly and helpful assisting us with phone calls, maps, catching shuttles, and suggestions. From the bar we had several different, very yummy, drinks.
Breakfast was adequate food with very good service. One could hardly take a slice of bread for toast without it being replaced immediately. Plenty of fresh fruit while we were there.
It was noisy with garbage haulers at all hours of the day. We slept with the air conditioning on to mask it. Our air conditioner was placed directly over the bed, so with each up and down sweep, we had air rushing across us. Not ideal, but we got used to it. Close to all shopping, high end and low end. Short walk to the beach. Loved sitting in the sunshine on the patio.
Reasonable rates, we would recommend it.

“Good location, reasonable price”

ResortQuest Waikiki Joy Hotel

My husband and I stayed at the Waikiki Joy for 3 nights on our recent stay in Oahu. When I booked the room in August 2007 Trip Advisor had mainly good reviews, but as our departure date drew closer there were more negative and mixed reviews and I began to panic a bit that we'd made a poor choice. However, it was too late to book another room at a reasonable price, so we decided to hope for the best.

We arrived at 5 pm and got checked in. I would describe the check-in process as transactional . . . . everything got done, but the clerk wasn't overly friendly. I had booked a room with a queen/king bed and specificially requested a room not near the elevator. When we got to the room, it was, yes, you guessed it, immediately next to the elevator and had two double beds. I immediately went back downstairs to the front desk where the clerk was surprised that I didn't like the room as it was an upgrade to a larger corner unit. When I explained to him that a bigger room didn't help us when we'd have to sleep in separate beds, he gave us another room. This one was also right next to the elevator (not sure why they ask for comments when you book when they clearly don't pay any attention to them), but we decided to take it. Fortunately, the elevators were quiet enough that they didn't bother us.

Our room was fine for a few days stay, including a small refrigerator, coffee maker, and stereo system. We had a balcony with a partial view of the ocean, which was an unexpected bonus. It was a nice place to go out in the morning and enjoy a quick cup of coffee. The bathroom had a large tub with bubble jets which we made use of, although the tub and its surround was in need of updating-it looked like it was original to the hotel, while much of the rest of the room had been updated. The woman who did the cleaning always greeted us in the hall and kept our room spotless and supplied with everything we needed.

The hotel also had a lovely first floor open air dining area where we had breakfast each morning, as well as a cute little koi pond. The continental breakfast was a quick way to get a bite to eat prior to starting our daily adventures and consisted of fresh fruit, bagels, rolls, juice and coffee. Again, the staff got the job done, but were pretty indifferent to the guests.

The Waikiki Joy has a good central location, about 3 blocks off of Waikiki Beach and one block from Kuhio Avenue, where you can pick up the bus going to Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Haunama Bay, etc. It is also close to lots of stores and eating establishments. We paid $139 per night and I was satisfied with our stay for the price with the exception of the last night, when we were awakened at 1 am by the most terrible racket that proceeded to continue for 3 hours. I was told by the clerk at the front desk the next morning, who was very apologetic, that the building across the street was beginning construction, had been unloading scaffolding and that the work was expected to continue for 4 months. She had received a number of guest complaints, had called the police to get them to stop and was going to have building management talk with the owners regarding their future plans and the noise level. We were just very happy at that point to be heading off to Maui where we could get caught up on our sleep!

In sum, we would stay at the Waikiki Joy again for the price and location. If you are looking for a luxury hotel or oceanfront location, it's probably not the right hotel for you, but if you are looking for a clean, serviceable hotel in a central location, it would fit the bill.

“Ok for a few nights”

We stayed here for 4 nights on our way home of the mainland. Our room was not ready when we arrived as check in is not until 3pm. We went and had lunch at The Cheescake Factory (a must place to eat) and when we came back our room was ready and we have been upgraded to one of the second largest suites in the hotel. It contained 2 double beds, a small lounge area with tv & vide and kitchenette with micro, toaster, rice cooker and hot plates, full size fridge. Bathroom had spa and a bottom washer on the toilet!! Room was larger enough for a family of 4 with 2 teenage daughters with loads of shopping. Room had a large balcony but unfortunately this only overlooked the street. The hotel has a karioke bar downstairs and that can be noisey later at night early morning as can the cars and garbage trucks that come by early morning. Front desk staff were great, recommended Paradise Cove Luau which is excellent, not cheap but well worth the trip. Rooms were cleaned with fresh towels each day and beach towels were available also. Pool is not large at all but enough to cool down in. The out look of the pool is not great, another building next door. Location is good, short walk to beach and 1 minute walk to main shopping strip. Breakfast is good and plenty to eat.

“Mixed review”

ResortQuest Waikiki Joy Hotel

The continental breakfast was quite good and generous.
The hotel cleaners regularly changed the towels and cleaned the room.
The majority of the staff were fair.
However, the noise during the early hours of the morning was disturbing as it lasted until 5am sometimes. The noise was due to young hooligans screaming and shouting. Also, the trucks/buses often made noise starting in the early morning from the DFS.
Unfortunately, on the last morning we were checking out we were told that our room had to be 'checked to see if anything had been stolen'. My husband and I were surprised to be informed about this as we had not heard of other hotels doing this type of check before. When I asked to see the hotel procedures in writing I was abruptly and rudely told to 'speak to the Manager' (which was impossible at that time, because we had to catch a plane). The impolite conduct left us feeling embarrassed and upset. We were also surprised to be charged over $1 per local phone call to such local places as a restaurant booking. Beware of the pitfalls.

Aloha, and thank you for your review.

During December, because of the hotel’s central location to the main shopping areas, restaurants, and night clubs in Waikiki, the hotel does experience some of the street celebrations, particularly leading up to New Year’s Eve. This is usually not a problem during the regular year. Fortunately, the hotel’s rooms are sound-proofed so if the room’s lanai doors and windows are shut, noise from outside of the hotel is usually not discernable.

The hotel does reserve the right to check the rooms for those guests whose reservations were made on the same day of their arrival and whose only means of payment/credit is cash. This is usually mentioned to those guests upon arrival.

The Waikiki Joy hotel charges US $.75 per local calls from the room, less than most beach hotels. In Australian Dollars, due to the exchange rate, this would approach AU $1.00.

Thank you, again. We always appreciate our guest's comments so that we may continually improve out operation. Mahalo!
