I give the hotel 4 stars, and I'd add half a star after the Trump Tower construction is finished. It is a nice hotel with a friendly courteous, staff, good location, and the free amenities are a huge bonus.
The Construction Issue:
The noise wasn't too bad, it was noticeable but not overpowering during breakfast, and they stopped around the same time the reception began. We were in the Hula Tower and did not hear any of it from our room, even with the lanai doors open. Overall, it was noticeable but not distracting or too much of a nuisance. If you are sensitive to noise, then I would suggest staying at a different hotel.
Value:
The free breakfast is a great value, and it's probably save a couple 40-50 bucks a day, and even more if you are bringing a family. It was not too crowded and there was plenty of food. French Toast, Waffles, Pancakes, Eggs, Cereal, Oatmeal, Omelettes made to order, Bacon, Sausage, Fresh Fruit, Yogurt, Bread (White and Wheat), Bagels, Baked Goods, Coffee, Milk, Juice, and soda were all readily available. The food is fresh, and of decent quality. It's what you would find in a normal restaurant, not crappy cafeteria/dorm food.
The manager's reception had snacks such as peanuts, chips, salsa, egg rolls, crab potstickers, cocktail sausages, salad, and other small snacks. They had well drinks, and the beer was Bud Light and Michelob Amber Bock.
Staff/Service:
One of our main complaints was the concierge service. They were unable to get us a rental car in Waikiki when we simply looked online and booked it ourselves through Budget. They were helpful in calling cabs and giving us shuttle information. I say book the activities on your own, but use them to get you taxis, shuttles, and other basic info. We had one housekeeper who wasn't very good, but another who was very nice and friendly, and waited till we left the room to start cleaning. Overall the staff was friendly, and accommodating, but again, book the activities yourself.
Location/Facilities:
The hotel is perfectly located. Its about a 1-2 minute walk to the beach, and there is plenty of shopping and restaurants all on the same block and within the area. The little Coco Cove convenience store is nice and a good way to pick up water, drinks, snacks, or other things that you don't want to walk very far to get. They also have Dole Pineapple Whip! The pool and spa area is nice, and was not very crowded. The bar is a little expensive but if you want to have a drink and relax by the pool its a nice convenience. The workout room was well equipped, but it was a bit too stuffy and hot, they definitely need more ventilation and fans. There is also free water in the workout room so if you have a refillable bottle you can just go in there and fill it up if you don't want to pay for water. The business center was very convenient, and the free printing is extremely helpful. Overall, I liked the decor, and the building was new, clean, and nice. Parking is expensive, $25 a day, so I suggest looking for parking elsewhere.
I'd recommend this hotel, the free breakfast is a really nice touch and can save you a ton of money especially if you are bringing kids.
