A good entry in the budget category sporting clean and comfortably sized rooms. Ours had slightly smaller than standard sized double beds with flat, rather than fitted, sheets that tended annoyingly to pull away during sleep. Still, the beds were comfortable. The under-the-window climate-control unit had its own thermostat and kept the room comfortable without any fuss. The bathroom tiles were spotless, a terrific feature but unfortunately marred by a badly discoloured mat affixed to the bottom of the otherwise spotless tub, making a shower, or more particularly, a bath, somewhat less than inviting.
The Quality Inn's amenities were above average in inspiration but in need of additional maintenance attention. The exercise room boasted a well-maintained (or possibly new) universal weight machine, right next to a StairMaster Gravitron, StairMaster stair climber and an exercise bike. Both StairMaster machines showed rust, and the stair climber's chain cried out for a simple turpentine soak and a little oil. The machines worked, but a bit erratically. The same should be said about the ventilation in the fitness room, which left it hot and stuffy. That said, I still managed a good workout. The pool was spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately during the weekend of our stay, the staff did not maintain the pool chemicals correctly, resulting in the water clouding up and the pool then being closed on the Monday.
I did enjoy the continental breakfast – the now-traditional bagel/muffin/bin-dispensed cereal/juice&coffee (which sure beats the day-old doughnut-and-coffee that used to pass for "Continental"). The rude woman at the front of the line toasting 10 bagels while the rest of us waited was not amusing, but not the hotel's fault. For their part, the food items were well-stocked (even after the bagel queen's raid) and the 3 blends of coffee all good. Having coffee, tea and fresh apples available all day was a nice added touch.
The true mark of any hotel is the attitude of the staff and this crew were sterling. When we discovered our room's coffee maker had the wrong decanter, a staff member cheerfully arrived three minutes after we called about the problem with a replacement. Checking in and out was a pleasure.
In all this Quality Inn has much to recommend it. There needs to be a bit more focus on looking for problems to fix, particularly considering that this area is well serviced by many good- to very good competitors.
