“Recommend - I stay here often”

Hyatt Regency Buffalo

4 of 5 stars
Western NY
May 9, 2008

I stay at the Hyatt often while traveling on business. It is currently undergoing lobby renovations as well as room renovations. Following the new Hyatt model (new bedding, etc.). I like the Hyatt. Good service. Jimmy is fantastic. The bar is enjoyable. New tables in the bar area. Breakfast is good. Get a coupon worth $12.95 at check-in. Breakfast buffet on the weekend is good, too. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Location is good for walking to Chippewa Street restaurants and bars. Great steakhouse in the Hyatt. Good room service. Everyone is friendly. Only negative is parking across the street. But its very close.

“Fine Business Class Hotel”

Hyatt Regency Buffalo

3 of 5 stars
Opelika, Alabama
Apr 28, 2008

Stayed at the Buffalo Hyatt for 3 nights while attending a conference held there. All staff that I interacted with were courteous, helpful and professional. The hotel is undergoing a much needed upgrade. The halls are all still very '70s with odd blue/teal carpet and bad wallpaper and are quite reminiscent of The Shining. I was pleasantly surprised by the room, however. I had a king room that was located at the very end of the hall (#1043). The room was huge; to the point that it seemed a bit empty and could have used a small sofa or at least a nice club chair. (I saw into some other rooms the next day and realized that my room really was large; other king rooms seemed standard size.) The bathroom was clean with plenty of towels and nice toiletries. (Althought there was approximately 1/2 inch clearance between the toilet and the door!) The only real problem I had was trying to figure out how to turn on the water in the tub...it was a knob that you have to pull on VERY hard to get it to pull out...I felt like a complete hick!)
I did not eat at the hotel other than continental breakfast provided as part of the conference, which was very good. The hotel restaurants were pricey and there are TONS of restaurants in the downtown area in every price range and all within easy walking distance. (I can heartily recommend Hemingway's pub, Holley Farms grocery/deli and the Bijou Grille)
The area around the hotel seemed almost completely deserted after working hours; in fact, I was surprised that so many restaurants were open at night. There were homeless and panhandlers on the streets and I was approached several times. Despite the deserted streets, we never felt uncomfortable or unsafe.
Bottom line: I would not make this a vacation destination, but the hotel was fine for a conference.

“...very iffy....”

Hyatt Regency Buffalo

we were in Buffalo for a Sabres game and this hotel was conveniently located close to the arena (about a mile away) However taking the tram there is horendously packed and slow so, we opted to walk the 20 min there.
We paid to park in the lot just behind the hotel. I believe it was $10 for the night.
Check in was busy and took a little longer than usual. Our room was okay - very average. But it had a nice hair dryer and shampoo conditioner and lotion were all pretty good. There is no mini bar. Only two large bottles of water in the room that cost 5 dollars a peice !
Continental breakfast was very nice and served in a pleasant atmosphere with good service.
Our biggest problem with the hotel was that it's pool and jacuzzi are ACROSS THE STREET ! you're expected to go outside and cross the street if you'd like to swim and in March and in Buffalo it's not an appealing option. We were pretty ticked about that, because it's always nice to get a chance to swim during winter - but there set up was ridiculous. i have never been to a hotel in that price range that didn't have an easily accessible pool.
I suppose if that we didn't care about swimming we would have had no real qualms with our stay there.

“New Years Day”

I picked Hyatt do to the location after attending the Ice Bowl, Pens vs Sabres game. This hotel has a great downtown location. There was three of us, my wife, brother and myself. We checked in at about 6 pm. Easy to find even without directions. Parking there is 3 options. There is a parking garage across the street, which was free that night. A lot across the street the other way for $7.00 all night and park on the street. We parkied on the street for free. Or we lucked out and put no money in the meter and parked free.

The hotel itself has very nice entry way leading to the fornt desk, the had a nice little bar and restraunt which has good hours. The also have a really upscale steak eatry too.

At check in I asked the clerk for a better 2 bedroom. He said he got me a better one than i had booked. We were in room 303 which is 3rd floor and located on the corner. The room was spaciouos yet lacking. It was basically a large room with 2 beds, a desk and dresser and tv. It was roomy but they could of had a chair or couch to fill in what seemed like a void. The room were clean nothing gross out of line found. Linens were plentyful and soaps and shampoo were great. Shower was clean and powerful and hot. My only complaint is the remote did not work if you laid in bed. It worked but not that far away.

We stayed on New Years day so a lot of the usaul places were closed. We walked out the back door across the street to TGI Fridays and had a late dinner. Then we went back to the room and watched tv and slept. The beds were comfy.

If you walk outside at night there is plenty of bars, restraunts and things to do in only the surrounding blocks.

When we were leaving to go check out the room service cart was in the hallway and I grabed some saop and some shampoo off it. Its that good. Check out was a breeze and the nieghbor is not crimals and your car is not gonna get stolen like other reviews have suggested. This I would rate as a 3 star hotel. 3.5.

The reason I can write highly yet only give the 3.5 star rating is one major reason. The room service for this hotel is what youwould pay at a 5 star, a breakfast omlet $12.50 plus 3 fee and tax. almost $17 for one omlet? I paid 89 for this night. If i would have order room serice for 3 it would have been more than the price of the room. There are many places to eat close by so this was not a major problem.

“Hyatt needs help”

Hyatt Regency Buffalo

Cutting corners a little too much at the Hyatt. No valet parking and the manager doubles up as the bell hop. And any late night housekeeping delivery like extra water glasses may be done by the security guard. Still, most staff are friendly and helpful.

This hotel is overdue for an upgrade. It's a flashback to a tired out 70's look in the lobby, with heavy wood, mirrored walls losing their luster and adorned by dusty plastic plants. The flashback continues in the corridors and rooms, blue carpets and faintly floral wallpaper like the unused spare bedroom in the suburban bungalow. Heavy curtained windows provide a great view of vintage Buffalo architecture but need a good washing on the outside to remove years of caked on muck.

New beds have been added and are very comfy, but the hot water runs out when you take a morning shower.

Don't be fooled by the access to gym - you need to put on your winter coat and boots to head across the road to a private club in the basement of a government office building.

Food in the hotel is surprisingly good. Service ok, but don't trust the in room menu for wine selections. Canvas is the only available plonk in spite of promises of pinot noir.

Skip the adjoining EB Green's. Steak may be good but salads are soggy and prices are out of sight. Head uptown instead to trendier spots off Elmwood and Delaware.
