Just got back from a short 4th of July vacation break at the Wild Oak. This is one of the newer Hyatt resorts and I have to say we were very impressed with the facilities. The property is beautifully maintained and was a lot less crowded that the much larger Hyatt Resort & Spa across the road. A tip to note is that you can visit the Resort & Spa and charge to your room at Wild Oak. This way we were able to marry the best of both facilities. I would always choose the Wild Oak to stay due to it being, as said earlier, much quieter. Both locations have a lazy river for tubing for example but the one at the Wild Oak looked cleaner and was exceedingly less crowded. My kids loved also loved the two large water slides - the largest must be 75/100 ft tall. Contrary to a couple of reviews here, I found the staff very friendly, helpful and professional. The barmen at JB's, Larry from Boston & Paul from Michigan were two of the best. JB's itself however, does have a limited menu - I tried the pizza which was pretty good but the brisket was quite poor so for dining I'd normally go offsite unless I was "snacking". You are close to a few restaurants 3 to 4 minutes down the road where 151 & the 410 loop intersect. If you want to eat in San Antonio proper on the Riverwalk it is quite a hike – around a 20 minute drive. The Wild Oak is close to Seaworld but when you are within the property grounds you feel very secluded. You will likely see a fair bit of wild life onsite such as rabbits, raccoons & lizards. Apparently, there even are a few rattlesnakes in the bushes as we were told a young girl had been nipped on the ankle last month. However, living in Texas we know this is possible but very, very rare so don’t let it put you off at all. The property currently has 3 or 4 "blocks" but will be expanding to at least 8 so it will get “unfortunately” busier. The rooms themselves are very well appointed in a rustic style which was very tastefully done - the living room has a 42 inch plasma as well. The only negative is that you do have to pay $10 a day for in-room cable internet. Considering the cost of the resort, the Hyatt could at least throw this in for free. There is also pay for use wireless in a couple of spots. All in all we had a great time and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
