It was the Fourth of July weekend and we wanted to be close to downtown for convenience. We're pretty much bored out by San Antonio. Too touristy for our liking and we were there for Sea World after all.
La Quinta Inn Downtown and Omni Lackland were booked out and this was a last minute booking.
So, let me start by telling you about the location. I had very little expectation of this hotel, but was willing to give it a go. I was very thrilled that the location was so close to the River Centre, River Walk and the Alamo. They're all within a short 5, 10 minutes walking distance.
Aside the location, we picked this hotel because it has free parking. The other neighboring hotels charge a high fee for parking. Of course, if you don't mind paying for parking then you'll have more options of places to stay in downtown.
Price: We paid $143.10 plus tax (10% off, promotional price - Fourth of July weekend) a night, King room. Booked through the hotel website.
Parking: Free, but be mindful that it will get full if you drive back to the hotel late at night. We parked by the curb near the pool area one of those nights there.
Staff/ service: Friendly and loud.
Check-in/ out: Easy. Long wait during the mornings when most guests check-out. The website says check-in at 4pm, we got there by that time and they let us check-in slightly earlier.
Check-out time supposedly is at noon, but we got a knock on the door at 11.30am while packing up to go and we were told that check-out time is 11am.
Breakfast: 6am-10am. Poor spread of choices, I always think that if you're gonna offer free breakfast, don't be cheap. breakfast area is right in front of the front desk. Expect a long line in the mornings. Many guests had to take their food back to their rooms, so did we. The breakfast area cannot accommodate most, if not all their guests... just like the parking lot.
Room: Exceeded my expectations. Pretty basic and good size. Curtains were thick but not exactly well installed to block out light. You get the light leaks from the sides of the curtain. A/C was good and quiet. Didn't notice any stains anywhere. Coffee and coffee maker are in the bathroom, on the counter (Gross!). Nice cabinets and furniture. We were on the 3rd floor facing the pool - gets noisy but the pool closes at 10pm.
I'm quite a light sleeper and I could hear people talking next door in the middle of the night. Expect to hear doors shutting, slamming especially in the mornings.
Transportation: The trolley stop is on E. Commerce and Bowie. Walk towards La Quinta Inn.
Other hotels adjacent to Hampton Inn: Days Inn, La Quinta Inn, Residence Inn.
