“Worth a visit, but somewhat boring.”

The Alamo is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the San Antonio area because of its historic significance, but it only takes about an hour to walk around. Keep in mind that you can take pictures from the outside, but not inside. It's a beautiful structure and the grounds are nice, but overall we found it boring - there wasn't really a whole lot to see.

We visited The Alamo on a Sunday. It was very crowed. We had A hard time finding parking also. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. It helped to take your time. I Will deffinatly go back but maybe on a week day in the off season. The whole area around The Alamo is very commercialized. Hotel in every direction. It was kinda sad they couldn't move them back a little. Never the less it is still a great oppertunity

“Great for history buffs”

This mission is a great retreat for history buffs, but I would go early in the morning. By midday when we went, there were so many people, we had to stand in line and be herded through. It was kind of hard to think of it as the shrine it is when so many people are in there. Also, even though everyone was whispering, it was loud, so - also hard to think of as a shrine.

Outside on the grounds, however, there are a lot of other areas to look at and read about, so any history buffs should be in heaven here.

“Facinating!”

Never knew what The Alamo was really about until I visited San Antonio's River Walk. The Alamo is just a stone throw away from that. The name was always familiar from alot of mexican/cowboy movies but once I saw what it was really about Im sooo flabagasted at this amazing history. I feel so privilaged to have had the opportunity to learn and appreciate the history of Texas and Mexico.
Because of the increasing popularity of the place picking a quiet time to go is vertually impossible unless you love a rainy day. I didnt mind the crowds at all because of the multi cultural of tourists around it made my experience more rewarding.
Its one of the oldest cities in America and the people I met who went there have never left their home town until then to visit history.
So if you get the opportunity to go.. GO!
Cheers!

each time we visit SA we always make a trip or two to the Alamo. If you go early in the day there aren't as many people there.
