each time we visit SA we always make a trip or two to the Alamo. If you go early in the day there aren't as many people there.

We came to San Antonio specifically to see the Alamo and found a site that oozed patriotism and character. Firstly, YES - the Alamo site is extremely crowded, always! But considering how easy it was to get there (it's straight off I-35), that we could park so close (reasonably priced parking is right there and during the week it's even cheaper) together with the fact that there is no admission fee -- we figured being around people wasn't much of a hardship (even if you can NEVER get a clear shot for the family photo album!) Secondly, YES - it is small but really, when you consider all that's left of the original 3 acre compound is, I believe, the church and the long barracks (don't quote me). They've done a brilliant job in the small but well groomed site of bring a sense of what it must have been like to be a Texas Defenders - definitely patriotic that's for sure. Thirdly, YES - the Alamo has been built around by high-rise buildings and business is bustling so watch out for passing cars and trams - it's easy to get run over as you walk down to the Riverwalk which is just across the street. Overall, my husband and son were a bit disappointed in it's size but we all agreed that there is a wonderful vibe to the Alamo that we can't quite explain but whatever it is, it keeps us coming back for more. Guess you'll just have to go check it out for yourselves.

The Alamo is an incredible part of history and still worth seeing. However, you are basically required to queue up and shuffle along with the rest of the herd past the artifacts. Large families, people with strollers, be aware that it's not an easy site to get through.

An excellent historical site. The guide gives lots of details and some stories. There is a film to watched and the museum to view. It kept my three children's attention and was altogether a wonderful attraction to visit. Remember the Alamo! when visiting San Antonio!
