“Beautiful except for proximity to road”

Castle Mountain Lodge

We stayed a week and did enjoy the wonderful property with many large ponderosa pines and the rushing Fall River flowing right through. The cabins have ample lawn and leisure space in between.

The lodge also has several nice common rooms and you get a friendly and efficient greeting when you check in.

Rooms are kept very clean and motel amenities are frequently replaced.

Unfortunately, the property is right across from the main road into the national park, with constant daytime movement of cars. That is, the road is just behind and on the other side of the river. The cars aren't honking their horns, but they are whishing by all day. We stayed in one of their best cabins but never used the patio because of this problem. If you are sensitive to this I'd rent one of the hillside cabins with patios facing up the mountain, which has a mature and nice pine forest.

Other than the road noise, this place is great.

The views were wonderful and the prices reasonable. The atmosphere was private and quiet. We wouldn't stay anywhere else.

I've stayed at the Castle Mountain Lodge two summers in a row (2005 and 2006) and will stay there again when I go back this year. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I've stayed in the River Castle cabins; they are clean and comfortable. There's a fridge, microwave, stove and oven in the cabins (very helpful). Cabins have their own outdoor grill. Furnishings aren't brand-new, but they're clean and more than adequate. There's a nice laundry facility, and the main building has books and videos to borrow. There's a play area for kids.

The property stretches along the Fall River, and there are numerous picnic tables and comfortable chairs-- wonderful to relax in. You may look at the map and think that the road is too close (it's just on the other side of the river) but because of the wonderful river noise, you don't even hear the road.

The only concern is that if you have multiple cars, parking is tight.

This is not a five-star property, but it's clean, comfortable and convenient to Rocky Mountain National Park and to the town itself. I won't stay anywhere else in Estes.

“Wonderful Stay”

My husband and I stayed for a birthday weekend at the Castle Mountain Lodge in Estes Park the weekend February 23. We had previously stayed there 2 years ago in the "Great Room" suite and it was wonderful. We especially liked having our own deck and hot tub. This trip we stayed in the "Castle View" cabin; a one bedroom w/ inside hot tub suite. The accommodations were slightly rustic but since this is the mountains that was perfectly fine. My one concern is that the cabins are very close together and in high season you wouldn't have much privacy on your patio or deck. Also, if you go in winter, the heating is tempermental but there is a wood burning fireplace.

Estes Park is a great place in the winter since the crowds are much smaller and you get better service at most places.
