I used to adore staying at this place, and at all Four Seasons. On my most recent trip, I just have to say that it has gone downhill. The service, experience and quality just isn't 'the top of the top' that it used to be. And therefore, it's hardly worth the Four Seasons price.

It's still great. But not what it should be for a Four Seasons.

They lost our luggage, overcharged for dinner once, didn't have the room ready, the staff seemed distracted. I never do this, but I sat down with the manager. Things improved and he comped us a delicious meal, which was nice. I still think it wasn't the grand experience I'd remembered. I recommend Lanai or the Big Island Four Seasons if you want to pay for the real deal.

Oh, and Spago's menu was just ridiculous. They should stop trying to be so creative and silly with all the mixed up combinations. Simple and elegant is better.

“Wonderful hotel, service and location”

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

The Four Seasons was the last stay for my wife and me on our honeymoon. When we arrived, the lobby was even more spectacular than the pictures on their web site. Upon arrival to our Ocean Prime View room, there was Champagne and chocolate strawberries waiting for us. The view from the room was directly looking the ocean and the center courtyard. We also had our pre-arranged spa, luau, surf lessons, dinner and sunset cruise reservation vouchers sent to our room the day before they occured. We had a rental car to drive around the island, which we did one of the days. Most of the time, the hotel provided free transportation for activites that were within 5 to 10 minutes of the hotel. Most activies can be accessed within hotel transportation.

Food was great at the hotel and their suggestions from Concierge were excellent. One restaurant, Capische, was very romantic and each food course was outstanding. The menu was a little limited, but has something for most everyone. We will go back to Capische when we return to the Four Seasons. Even the food at the lobby bar was great. The lobby bar will also provide food from any of the 3 restaurants.

Each time we left the resort, we were greated by name by almost every employee. They made sure that if we needed anything beyond what they provided, they would get it for us. The Concierge tried to get us a table along the patio for a great sunset view at Capische, but they said they had no tables with a sunset view that night. We could over hear the Concierge ask Capische to do somthing for a Four Seasons guest, but the restaurant said they had nothing. When leaving for dinner, the Concierge told us that he knew we would love dinner and the view. When we arrived, we were sat on the patio for a sunset dinner. The day we drove to the North Shore, we found a restaurant called Mama's Fish House. The food was great and should be visited when you travel to the North Shore.

Great time, great service and great everything else.

“Wonderful Experience!!”

My husband and I visited the Four Seasons at Wailea on our 1st anniversary. I had never stayed at a Four Seasons before, but I knew it was supposed to be really nice. It exceeded our expectations. Everything was 1st class! We were welcomed to the hotel with cool beverages and taken to our room quickly. Our room was really nice with a nice view. I love nice hotels and this hotel ranks toward the top of my list. This hotel is really pricy, so my husband and I couldn't afford to stay there the entire time we were visiting the islands, but a few nights at the Four Seasons was definitely worth it. I would definitely recommend the hour massage by the ocean. It's the best massage experience I've ever had. My husband had a great time playing the Plantation golf course up at Kapulua. We did not have a great experience with snorkling here in Maui. The snorkling was GREAT on the Big Island.
If you like luxury hotels, it's hard to beat the Four Seasons at Wailea. Just come ready to spend some money, cause it is all very expensive. We both hope to go back some day!!

“Trip of a Lifetime”

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

Just returned from a 7 night stay at the Four Seasons Wailea. Absolutely incredible. Service was fantastic from housekeeping, to valet staff, to food service, to beach/pool staff, everyone was friendly and offered service with a smile on their face.

We had an oceanfront suite that was huge. It had an extremely large "L" shaped lanai. One side looked straight out over the ocean, the other side looked out over the front entrance. Landscaping and gardens was beautiful and well maintained. We had a lot of fun playing croquet and bocce in the mornings before breakfast.

I highly recommend going on the complimentary outrigger canoe trip. You just have to sign up in advance. I believe 5-6 trips go out each morning. I went out on the first trip of the day at 7AM. The ocean was extremely calm then (it gets quite rough after 11AM because of the strong tradewinds). It takes about 45 minutes total. You learn some Hawaiian commands and get some history. Then you get 30 minutes of paddling in the water (very tiring). We saw 4 sea turtles while we were out (more than I saw on my 4 hour snorkel trip).

We ate at Ferraro's which was good. Beautiful place to watch a sunset. I did enjoy their signature dish, the lobster risotto. I also had a cantaloupe soup as an appetizer which was different but tasty. My husband enjoyed his baked chicken dish (he's not too adventurous).

Duo's breakfast buffet was awesome!!! They have everything you can imagine. My husband is still raving about the Hawaiin sweetbread pancakes. I preferred the Belgian waffles with a huge selection of fresh fruits.

It truly was the stay of a lifetime. My husband won the trip so money was not a factor. I would definitely stay here again, although I would stay in a regular room not a suite (cost issue). I would come to Duo's for breakfast even if I didn't stay at the Four Seasons.!!

“Fantastic Experience”

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

We spent a week in Maui splitting our time between the Ritz and the Four Seasons. This was our first experience with the Four Seaons.

We loved our stay at the Ritz. For sheer beauty of the hotel and it's surroundings, you can't beat the Ritz. They had the advantage of building the hotel on large piece of land so they had room to put in a huge pool and the vistas from the hotel are breath taking.

The Four Seasons, on the other hand, seems to have been shoe-horned into a small piece of land that was available after the Grand Wailea had stopped expanding. As a result (I believe) they have a tiny little pool. Almost disappointingly tiny. The hotel seems to have recognized this, they told us they were planning another pool but from the map they showed us, the new pool will be small too.

That being said, the Four Seasons has the beach right in front of them. Unlike the Ritz, it's not a hike down to the beach. Choose your cabana right and you can take advantage of the beach and the pool all day long. From the pictures I saw of the beach on the Four Seaons web site, I thought I would be disappointed but I was not. It's a gorgeous beach.

The Four Seasons is also located in Wailea where the weather tends to be milder than up in Kaplaua where the Ritz is located. There were days when you would get wind and rain at the Ritz and see sunshine a few miles down the road in Lahaina. For that reason alone, we decided to try the Four Seasons.

The service at the Four Seasons is incredible. We were met at the front door with a lei and a bead necklace and guided to the front desk where there was no waiting. (We had to wait 15 minutes at the Ritz to check in). And the staff all seem to make an effort to remember your name and give friendly service. The beach and poolside service was what impressed us the most. I've never ever seen so many attendents working so hard to please you. The cabanas are free to use. At the beach, they set up a chair and an umbrella for you.

The Ritz is slighly less expensive (relatively speaking). And it offers one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever seen. The Four Seasons has the advantage of being in Wailea, and the service is outstanding but you do pay for it.

After comparing the two hotels, we plan on returning to the Four Seasons next time we are in Maui.

P.S. My wife loved Spago. I loved the steak at Duo.
