“4 Seasons Wailea - Still the best on Maui!”

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

5 of 5 stars
New York City, New York

After a 10 year hiatus, my return to the FS Wailea was long overdue. It was an absolute pleasure to arrive at this beautiful property after the long journey from New York. The entire property is immaculate, and very well maintained. It looks as great as I left it in 1998. A testament to the FS Mgt., and their staff.

We were met with the traditional lei greeting, and tropical juices in the gorgeous lobby. Valet and bellmen were right on point. (Overnight valet parking $18 a day). At the front desk we met Yarnell, a transplanted gem from the Bronx, NY. We were upgraded to a partial ocean view room. We stayed on the B&B plan which included the great buffet breakfast at $655 a night including all taxes and fees. (Note: If you book a few months in advance you could get this plan on the FS website for under $500 a night.)

Our room (#436) was very nice, large flat screen tv etc., and had a great lanai overlooking the putting green, and croquet lawn. With the ocean in the distance, the room actually faced in the direction of the main entrance of the hotel, but was obscured by the beautiful tropical foilage (very quiet). The sunsets from the lanai were breathtaking. The only issue with the room for me was the long walk from the elevators, but after a couple of days in Maui who cares. Room service was quick and delicious (burger and cobb salad). Twice a day housekeeping was excellent. Alert!***One room amenity the FS missed is the ol' "chocolate on the pillow" at turn down. Call me old school and a chocolate addict, but I did miss not having my nightly chocolate fix. Come on FS Mgt. chocolate please!

The bountiful buffet was great! Made to order eggs/omelets, pancakes, french toast, and all of the other breakfast staples. Service for breakfast at DUO was wonderful, quick and polite. There was a service charge included on the bill bringing it to almost $80 for 2, but covered in full with the B&B package. For those with kiddies, they even set up a kids buffet at the entrance of DUO so kids can share in the FS breakfast experience.

The pool, aaaah the pool(s). Main pool centered with a beautiful fountain, spa included. Waterfall pool, and adjacent kiddie pool. They may not be the biggest, but were never crowded and were a great place to lounge and relax. The pool service is second to none! Bright and early the pool staff awaited your arrival. Here we met Kanoe, and Javier. These great guys met our every need with speed and a smile. We loved the mini-macadamia muffins. Note: There were some guests that pulled the very, very early "put my towel and book" in the best cabana scam, but this was held to a minimum by the policing of the staff. Trust me, you don't mess with Kanoe! Try and land the seats on the mini-cliff facing the ocean...awesome view!

Food and drink at the pool was very good and service was fast. Some of my favorite pool fare were (veggy pizza, the burger and steak fries, and the chicken quesadilla). $7 dollar Heinekens, but Hey! your on vacation.

For dinner we dined at DUO, and Ferraro's...missed Spago.
At DUO we had the grilled catch of the day, and the filet mignon very delicious. At Ferraro's we had the fried shrimp and calamari (excellent), bruschetta and the signature lobster risotto, and the seafood pasta also very good. Service and ambiance at both restaurants were right on target.

The FS gym (accessed through the spa entrance) was very well equipped, with the ellipticals and treadmills (w/tv's) outdoors which I enjoyed. The Spa was modern with Hawaiian flair, enjoy a glass of the ginger blast water. The Men's steam room was awesome! the hottest I ever experienced...time to sweat out the pool cocktails. We really enjoyed our massages, ask for Giselle she was absolutely wonderful.

From Saimin (soup) to Macadamia (nuts), we truly enjoyed every aspect of our stay at the FS Wailea. I give the FS Maui 5 Hoku's (stars). The hotel property, and surrounding Wailea area is beautiful. Don't forget to check out the Shops at Wailea. There's a local ABC store for water, wine, sundries and souvenirs. Also, a Gap and Banana Republic to the high line shops Tiffany & Co, Louis Vuitton & Fendi theres something for everyone. I promise not to wait another ten years before returning to this paradise. Aloha!

“Bitterly Disappointed!”

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

3 of 5 stars

I have stayed at most Four Seasons' resorts in the US and some abroad. I expected a comparable level of service at this hotel in Wailea, Maui because it bears the Four Seasons' name. I was sadly mistaken!

I reserved a "Club Level" room which I believed to be a significant step up from the luxury suite that was featured in all the literature with which I had been provided. Indeed, the "Club Level" room rate was 60% above any other room except for their special suites and I was assured that this room was the top-of-the-line room ranking just below the Executive Suites.

Imagine my dismay when I disovered that: (a) the Club Level room was about one third the size of the lower tier luxury room, (b) the Club Level room had hardly any ocean view compared to the panoramic ocean views of the lower tier rooms, (c) the Club Level room had just one small lanai (balcony) compared to TWO LARGE balconies for the lower tier room, (d) the Club Level room had no dining area versus a spacious dining/entertaining area in each lower tier room, (e) the Club Level room had just one TV set in the bedroom vs a total of two in the luxury room ... and the Club Level room cost 60% MORE than the lower tier "luxury" rooms!!!

Are they nuts!!

I asked to be downgraded (yes, DOWNGRADED!) to the lower tier luxury room. The Four Seasons front desk grudgingly agreed to do this (gee thanks!).. and I spent the rest of my stay in a decent suite for a fraction of the cost of their "superior" Club Level accomodation.

I get to Hawaii often, I thought I was treating myself but I'll never stay at the Four Seasons again!

“Destination Wedding!!”

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

Jun 25, 2008
2/3 found this review helpful

We had our reception at the 4 Seasons and would have had our ceremony there as well, but we had to use the chapel at the Grand Wailea next door. The service was excellent and with our short notice, they were able to pull off a brunch reception at the OCEAN Front Lawn.
Maui is definitely commercialized so if it's your first time to Hawaii it will be very convenient b/c of all the mainland amenities. I would rate it 2nd to Oahu as far as having all the ameneties of the mainland. If you want solitude or more of an island escape go to the Big Island or Kaui etc.

Now, the only thing I'd say to brides/grooms is that people are on island time there. If you are planning a wedding from the US or anywhere else, they do not email/return phone calls right away. That was a bit frustrating. The resort has a list of vendors that you choose from and they make it very difficult for you to bring your own vendors. But we were very pleased with the photographer, florist, etc. If you send in photos they will create everything you want. We had our rehearsal dinner at Duo and they included the price of the dinner into the reception package b/c there is a minimum that you must pay.

We arrived a week before the wedding and loved the pool and service. The cabanas were great if you wanted privacy. The poolside service is wonderful as well, they set up chairs for you and bring you fruit. They will hold your chair b/t 11 and 2 in case you want to go eat lunch. but you can order lunch at your chair as well. The chef will also work with you on your diet if you request certain things. B/c we were there during memorial weekend, it was very busy and quite the scene. We met Dr.Dre on the elevator right before the reception.

The restaurants we went to were the poolside one which is casual with very good food. My husband and I are foodies and we definitely recommend Duo which is known for steak. Because Hawaii is so close to Asia, there are many asian influences esp. the food.

The service is phenomenal, there is no such word as "no". They cater to your every need. The people are sincere and really try to help you with anything. For example, when you get out of your car at the lobby, they immediately come to help you. They won't let you carry anything heavy unless you don't want them to. At the Grand wailea next door, no one greeted me when I got dropped off with my wedding dress for the ceremony. No one even told me where to go to check in or offerred to help me carry my dress.

The fitness room is outdoors and the weight room is indoor. There is a path by the beach you can run/walk on and go through the Grand Wailea and Mariott and even further to Kihe.

The hotel is a tower and b/c it is next door to all the other hotels there are many people walking through. Our suite was huge, they upgraded us for free. They also gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne. The manager also contacted the 4 Seasons in Kona and made sure that we were upgraded for our honeymoon.

The wedding planner is very professional and will give you ideas that will make the wedding go smoother and look nicer. We didn't hire a band or dj since we were only there for brunch. She recommend just to bring an ipod and they hook up speakers etc. IT totally worked well.

Overall, the 4seasons can't be beat!

“4 Seasons, 4 Stars not 5”

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

4 of 5 stars
Farmington, CT

My wife and I stayed at the Four Seasons for the last 2 nights for our honeymoon in the beginning of June. Our room was not ready until 3:15 when check-in was 3pm, but that was not too big of a deal except when you see everyone else checking in and going to their rooms. The room itself was great, with a patio and one of the best bathrooms that we have ever seen. Like everyone says the pool is great and we did not go to the pool until about noon each day and we were able to get cabana's.
Contrary to another reviewer we really enjoyed the fitness equipment being outside, it was a different touch, especially nice to get out of the sun for a little bit. The weight room inside was not that big but very nice, and nicer than the other hotel gyms we stayed at.
The food at Spago was superb!!! Great service and a great meal.
The breakfast at Duo was not very good, and we had a problem with service one morning and they ended up comping our breakfast because we ordered off the menu and they took 45 minutes.
It was a very relaxing hotel to stay with a great beach, and you do not have to leave if you don't want and can be very happy.
My biggest complaint is the service seemed "forced". We stayed at the Hyatt in Kauai and felt that the service was better and friendlier the entire time. Many of the employees of the Four Seasons were not locals, they were from mainland US or Europe. They were too in your face and it felt they were helping you because they had too, not because they wanted too. There was no "aloha" spirit at the Four Seasons, it all seemed fake.

Overall it was a great place to stay and end our honeymoon, but it was not as incredible as many people make it to be.

“honeymoon bliss”

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

5 of 5 stars
Dallas TX

This is absolutely the most amazingly perfect place on Earth.

My husband and I went several years ago for our honeymoon. I stumbled across the reviews while planning another trip and felt compelled to write a little as the pictures brought back so many perfect memories. Obviously, The Four Seasons is still as wonderful as it was while we were there.

We arrived in Maui late in the day and were exhausted. After hasseling with the car rental place and picking up our rental, we arrived at The Four Seasons and immediately went to our suite. Hawaiian music was playing in the background. Champagne was chilling on the table. A bowl of fresh fruit welcomed us.

We were finally able to relax after the long flight from Dallas. We booked an executive suite the first few days but had to move to a regular room for the remainder of the trip. The suite had been booked by someone else prior to our trip--my husband's fault in planning. Moving was not that big of a deal as they handled it all. We were in Maui for a couple of weeks and --once we recovered from the exhausting wedding and began exploring Maui--we spent the latter part of our trip at a Bed and Breakfast in Haiku.

We felt pampered and relaxed and everything was so peaceful and perfect. This was absolutely the cure for our wedding and dealing with stress of it all. We needed to recover from our wedding and this was the perfect place to be with each other and to enjoy our first days as a married couple.

We love adventure and really enjoyed renting a jeep and exploring the Up Country... We opted to purchase gourmet snacks at Safeway (and champagne) to keep in our room. We went to Tedeschi Vineyard...many churches and hidden beaches. We definately loved the CD recording to Hana and it led us to find places we never would to explore. We went on a hike and found a waterfall in a bamboo forest.

Every day should be a day at the Four Seasons in Maui. This was absolute heaven.

We noticed a few celebrities but it was nothing. We did not care or make a deal out of it. We felt like celebrities while there and were treated as such.

We ended up with a special souvenier of a honeymoon baby. The Four Seasons was an amazing beginning to our marriage and the best place to start our life together.
