My first room was (as requested) on a high floor (24, I think). The minute the bellperson left the drilling over my head begun. I called the front desk and they admitted yes, they are renovating above me. I asked to be moved to a floor without the drilling. It took a while and it seemed like a hassle but it was finally arranged. The manager who took care of this said: I would lilke to take care of you for your trouble. So I said suggest something. She said I could either give you access to the concierge lounge or comp your next stay. I said, how about breakfast instead - since I have no plans to return - and she said fine. I got breakfast for two (even though I was alone) and lunch for two (which I couldn't use) which I found adequate compensation for the hassle. I did meet a couple on the 24th floor who were very upset about the drilling; they were staying put but they had that stay comped for their trouble.
I thought the first room was just fine (other than the drilling) but the new room (on 6 I believe) was recently renovated and gorgeous.
in fact, it wasn't quite finished - no mini bar yet. If you have the choice, forget the view and ask for a renovated room.
Everything else in the hotel was fine. The staff really tried to go out of their way to be friendly yet professional. The neighborhood at night is not good.
