I stayed here mid-Jan 2008 for a four day conference. The hotel did a great job in hosting the conference. Signage, food, A/V, business center, etc. coordinated very smoothely. Arrived around 4 pm to check in and my room wasn't ready. At least it was clean when I did check in.

My biggest gripe was the elevators in Tower II. After our meetings let out it took about 20 minutes for everyone to get up to their rooms. There was no stairwell we could access to get up. (You can get to the stairs from the floors your room is on, but not from the lobby level.)

Speaking of stairs, get this... I decided to climb the stairs a few times for exercise the last day of my stay. As I approached the top floor with my head down to watch my step, bam - face to face with a homeless vagrant who was sleeping in a chair. I'm not sure who was more scared - me or him.

I can't compare this hotel to others in Atlanta, but compared to hotels in other major cities it definitely was not worth the $190 they were charging per night.

“A dump”

Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

Jan 15, 2008

Stayed here for a company function and can not believe this place was booked for us. If you are a Hilton or Westin person keep driving. They are only a few blocks away. As mentioned in previous post the self-parking deck is very dangerous. I would not walk in that place alone. I had to navigate with a stroller and was scared every time I heard the sound of breaks coming around the corner. On the other hand I was also not willing to hand over my brand new Benz to the Valet either. I probably would have never seen it again or the content left in it.

The lobby and pool section of the hotel are nice. Looks like all the money to remodel was spent there. I was very disappointed in the room. It is very old looking and has a stale odor to it.If I was not with a company funtion I would have left.

“Bad experience”

We stayed here as part of a road trip because the hotel is pet friendly.
We barely got any sleep and ended up leaving very early the next morning rather than stay here any longer.
The parking garage is a long, dangerous walk from the hotel.
The room itself was clean enough, but had a rather dingy feel to it. The bathroom was small and the bed was a queen size, and not terribly comfortable.
However, the worst part was: our room was on the lower level, and all night we heard the sound of running footsteps and rolling carts. The walls are also very thin and you could hear any conversation in the hallway. Sleep was virtually impossible. If you stay here do NOT allow them to put you in the lower level.
As an aside, when we asked the concierge where to walk the dog, she told us there was a park 7 blocks away, but we might have to pass a bunch of "homeless bums" outside the hotel.
I would not recommend this hotel.

“Decent value for downtown Atlanta”

Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

This is an older hotel property that doesn't look terribly appealing from the outside. But inside it's very nice, the rooms and public areas are more than adequate and the price is usually a good value compared to other downtown hotels just a few blocks down the street.

A few other things:

* Self-parking is $18/day, while valet is $24. When you check-in, pull into the circular turnaround, leave your luggage with a bellhop and ask to self-park. They will hold your luggage and instruct you how to park. It's tricky to get from the garage to the hotel, but it's a heck of a lot easier without lugging all your bags.

* The front desk frequently seemed to get backed up and then wouldn't answer the telephone! I learned to just dial 0 to talk to an operator rather than trying to call the front desk directly.

* Everything is overpriced (of course) in the hotel. There's an affordable liquor store across the street for drinks and snacks, but the rooms have no refrigerators, so be prepared to use lots of ice.

* Panhandling is an issue in Atlanta. Just give a firm "no" and keep walking. The panhandlers generally are not aggressive and do take no for an answer. There is a large presence of downtown police and "ambassadors" should you need help. Downtown Atlanta isn't great, but Peachtree St is a short walk, so there should be enough restaurant/bar options nearby.

“Worst Hotel Ever”

Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

1 of 5 stars
Knoxville

Very bad experience. Highlights:

The parking garage is not connected directly to the hotel. There will be no bell person directly helping take you lugage to the hotel. You must walk down the floors of the parking garage along a painted blue lines, against the traffic in the garage. Very dangerous. I have a bad shoulder and we travelled with pets, making this very difficult. They will not let you park in front of the hotel to take in luggage. And, even though we paid roughly 20 bucks/ night for parking, when the garage filled up, they made us park accross the street and pay for that additional parking as well. They would not reimburse.

Upon checking, our heater was broken so that it was 102 degrees in the room. It took them forever to get upstairs, and fix, and thus made me miss an appointment I had for that night.

Customer service is terrible. Very understaffed. Long lines for check in, even for prefferred customers. Called customer service / room service several times. They would not say whether or not they could get something done, and when they did deliver, it was incorrect or very long time coming.

It was new years, and we needed a champagne chiller and glasses. I finally had to go down to the restaurant and cary an ice bucket by myself up to 6th floor. Got plastic glasses.

There was no manager on staff to assist with anything. Would not return our voicemails.

Finally, a restaurant manager said hed take care of things on or bill as reimbursement, but next moring, when we left to check out, that manager had not told anyone anything and was not on duty. Had to relive whole thing again. Did get a night off the bill, but that's all. Would not reimburse parking.

Hot tub luke warm.

Staff has no idea how to make restaurant recommendations or give directions, etc. For the price we paid, they should be making reservations for us.

Don't stay here!
