“Bad experience”

Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

We stayed here as part of a road trip because the hotel is pet friendly.
We barely got any sleep and ended up leaving very early the next morning rather than stay here any longer.
The parking garage is a long, dangerous walk from the hotel.
The room itself was clean enough, but had a rather dingy feel to it. The bathroom was small and the bed was a queen size, and not terribly comfortable.
However, the worst part was: our room was on the lower level, and all night we heard the sound of running footsteps and rolling carts. The walls are also very thin and you could hear any conversation in the hallway. Sleep was virtually impossible. If you stay here do NOT allow them to put you in the lower level.
As an aside, when we asked the concierge where to walk the dog, she told us there was a park 7 blocks away, but we might have to pass a bunch of "homeless bums" outside the hotel.
I would not recommend this hotel.

“Decent value for downtown Atlanta”

Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

This is an older hotel property that doesn't look terribly appealing from the outside. But inside it's very nice, the rooms and public areas are more than adequate and the price is usually a good value compared to other downtown hotels just a few blocks down the street.

A few other things:

* Self-parking is $18/day, while valet is $24. When you check-in, pull into the circular turnaround, leave your luggage with a bellhop and ask to self-park. They will hold your luggage and instruct you how to park. It's tricky to get from the garage to the hotel, but it's a heck of a lot easier without lugging all your bags.

* The front desk frequently seemed to get backed up and then wouldn't answer the telephone! I learned to just dial 0 to talk to an operator rather than trying to call the front desk directly.

* Everything is overpriced (of course) in the hotel. There's an affordable liquor store across the street for drinks and snacks, but the rooms have no refrigerators, so be prepared to use lots of ice.

* Panhandling is an issue in Atlanta. Just give a firm "no" and keep walking. The panhandlers generally are not aggressive and do take no for an answer. There is a large presence of downtown police and "ambassadors" should you need help. Downtown Atlanta isn't great, but Peachtree St is a short walk, so there should be enough restaurant/bar options nearby.

“Worst Hotel Ever”

Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

1 of 5 stars
Knoxville
Jan 3, 2008

Very bad experience. Highlights:

The parking garage is not connected directly to the hotel. There will be no bell person directly helping take you lugage to the hotel. You must walk down the floors of the parking garage along a painted blue lines, against the traffic in the garage. Very dangerous. I have a bad shoulder and we travelled with pets, making this very difficult. They will not let you park in front of the hotel to take in luggage. And, even though we paid roughly 20 bucks/ night for parking, when the garage filled up, they made us park accross the street and pay for that additional parking as well. They would not reimburse.

Upon checking, our heater was broken so that it was 102 degrees in the room. It took them forever to get upstairs, and fix, and thus made me miss an appointment I had for that night.

Customer service is terrible. Very understaffed. Long lines for check in, even for prefferred customers. Called customer service / room service several times. They would not say whether or not they could get something done, and when they did deliver, it was incorrect or very long time coming.

It was new years, and we needed a champagne chiller and glasses. I finally had to go down to the restaurant and cary an ice bucket by myself up to 6th floor. Got plastic glasses.

There was no manager on staff to assist with anything. Would not return our voicemails.

Finally, a restaurant manager said hed take care of things on or bill as reimbursement, but next moring, when we left to check out, that manager had not told anyone anything and was not on duty. Had to relive whole thing again. Did get a night off the bill, but that's all. Would not reimburse parking.

Hot tub luke warm.

Staff has no idea how to make restaurant recommendations or give directions, etc. For the price we paid, they should be making reservations for us.

Don't stay here!

“a good mid-range hotel”

I walked from the MARTA Peachtree station to this hotel just after 6pm. The escalators up to the street must be the longest dingiest escalators anywhere- not a good start. As mentioned by other reviewers there are panhandlers on the walk to the hotel but they seem harmless. Guys in white helmets walk around the downtown area - these are unarmed volunteers keeping an eye out and are there to keep the visitors reassured.

First impressions of the hotel - bright lobby efficient check-in staff. I was given a room close to the pool on the third floor - my colleague a room on the tenth floor in the south tower. The rooms were of different quality - mine was slightly larger with a sofa but had no fridge no safe, a horrible fluorescent light in the bathroom ( not good in the morning) and eighties style sliding mirror closet doors. However spotlessly clean and a superb bed. My colleage on the tenth floor had a fridge, safe and an updated bathroom but no settee. So some differences - make sure you ask for what you want .

The pool was a bit of a disappointment. For part of the stay it was out of use as a conference had taken over the pool area for their meals. For the rest of the stay there was a safety rope separating out the deep end of the pool from the shallow end. So, this is not a pool for serious swimmers but perfectly ok for kids.

There is a useful deli on site - 24 hours selling sandwiches, coffee, pastries etc. which was good for a quick breakfast.

The downtown area restaurants are limited. I would recommend Hsu's - an above average Cantonese-chinese restaurant with a good menu. But a taxi away from downtown is probably sensible as well - try Dish in Highlands.

“Suited Our Needs!”

Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

We had a corner room with 2 full beds. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was small but adequate. This hotel served our needs very well. The staff we encountered was helpful. On our first night it took my husband a long time to figure out how to get back to our room from the parking lot. I had some help from the front desk. Once we learned the location of the room, it made it easier to park near the room. Also, parking was a bit of a problem. We arrived back at the hotel rather late each night and the garage was closed. This forced us to try and find parking in the open lot, which was not easy. The valet guy wanted my husband to park at another garage down the street at 1:00 am. Hotel is in the city where we saw a lot of homeless people. While we never felt endangered, we would not have ventured out on foot at night. Instead, the front desk allowed him to park in a valet parking spot. We noticed security around the exterior of the hotel. Never had the time or opportunity to explore the hotel or the pool. Great deal at Priceline!
