The hotel options in this up and coming area of Buckhead are many, but we wanted a luxury hotel and were limited to this one and the Ritz Carlton. After reading some very unfavorable reviews on the Ritz regarding an environment more suited for rap stars, I chose the Intercontinental. We checked into our $249.00 club-level room on a Friday night and found the room entirely passable. The bed was very comfortable. The television and remote were both rather dated, especially when you factor in the hotel's relatively young age of 3 yrs. The bathroom had a separate soaking tub and shower. Water pressure could have been better, but considering the drought these poor people are enduring, it was understandable. The counter space was a little limited. The towels were adequate, not luxurious by most standards. One of my bath towels actually was quite stained. Ew. The worst part of this room wasn't actually in the room, rather it was the loud and raucous sex occurring in the room next door. The walls must be pretty thin because we heard pretty much everything. But once that subsided (the husband and I were very impressed with his stamina!) our room returned to moderately enjoyable again. We checked out of our room on Sun. morning and headed to the airport, but were met with airplane problems. We obtained a mechanic and found that we actually were going to have to spend another night in Atlanta while repairs were made. We checked back in on Sunday night, into another club level room. They only charged us $150.00 per night for this room. This one must have been serviced by a different room service attendant because the towels were great! We also were given extra soaps for the shower (our first room only had one soap for the entire bathroom). There were slippers with the robes that were not in our first room. The television had a much better picture and the buttons on the remote actually worked!
We didn't use the hotels pool, but it looked nice. There was live music each night over the weekend. The pianist, bass player and drums on Fri. and the pianist on Sunday night were pretty good. The club-level club was okay. The breakfast spread was okay. But we've found over the years that these clubs are just turning into places for people to bring all their kids for a free breakfast and they tend to get overrun with loud and out-of-control kids.
We ate one dinner at their French inspired restaurant "Au Pied de Cochon". It wasn't terrific. The bread was stale and the service was slow. But it was late Sunday night and they were open.
The hotel's location is pretty good. Central Buckhead region. Pretty close to a couple of REALLY nice shopping centers including Phipps Plaza, a very nice mall with some nice upscale boutiques (Gucci, Dior, Versace, etc.) and a Saks 5th Ave. There are restaurants galore including a Morton's Steakhouse and a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (one on either side of the hotel!).
One horrifying detail, there is a $26.00 per day charge to valet park your car. You can park your car yourself, but they'll still charge you $17.00!!!!!
There is a LOT of construction going on in this portion of town as it is in the middle of it's renaissance, so it can get kind of loud with concrete work, jack-hammers, trucks, etc...
I still think I'd stay here again as opposed to going to the Ritz. It being a newer hotel is still working in it's favor, and will continue to do so for us until the next big luxury hotel shows up.
