2 of us visited The Varsity on a Saturday afternoon. You have a choice of staying in your car at the drive in or parking and going inside. I would suggest you go inside so that you can experience ordering from the counter. Be prepared as you approach and they start asking What’ll ya have? We just got cheeseburgers & onion rings. The food is nothing to write home about, you go here for the experience. There is a large wall with photos & clippings showcasing the restaurants history. Who knew that Nipsy Russell worked here? They are serious about not parking in their lot if you are not eating. We watched as they put boots on cars.

Other than being a "tradition" relating to college students decades ago (who must not have been able to afford better food), this place has nothing going for it. Greasy burgers probably made with cheap beef; tacky environment; just plain bad food. Why would you eat here? I would never go back again.

If you like good old fashioned deep fried road food, this is THE place! Conveniently located right off the interstate, this quality "fast" food is worth a stop. It's bright lights and big diner atmosphere and soup-nazi style counter staff. The hamburger buns are fresh baked and meat just right. The onion rings are a must try and save room for the peach fried pies. Wash it all down with an 'orange cream' and run for the alka selzer.

We stopped at the Varsity on a weekend trip to Atlanta. We stopped mostly because we saw it on Food Network. It was an experience....and once was enough! The chili on the chili dog was more like paste. The onion rings were nothing special. But we didn't expect anything gourmet for the price. We can say we were there. If your looking for the best chili dogs...try Hodges in Union Station in St. Louis! Try the Varsity if you want a quick, inexpensive snack.
