As a frequent business traveler, I have never had this experience before from a major hotel chain such as Hilton Hotels. I arrived at 6PM at Homewood Suites Atlanta -Galleria after a long flight. Checking-in should be non-eventful however the clerk told me that they overbooked. He handed me a $69 voucher for a $149 room which I originally booked. I was new to town, inexperienced driving in a strange town especially at night. In my predicament, 2 Caucasian businessmen checked in within half hour after me. Both had a room. One was from my company who had a reservation for $80. Now I wondered whether it mattered if I checked in at 2 PM or 6PM; whether I reserved a $149 or $300 room. I am a Hilton Honor member, work for a major corporation, American Express is my travel agent, my corporate card guarantees late arrival. Why did I get a second class treatment? Is it because the color of my skin?
