“Great rooms”

Wyndham Garden Hotel - Atlanta Downtown

I was a little nervous when I checked into the hotel and saw all the construction around the lobby area. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the room. The bed was wonderful, there was a large flatscreen tv, and the desk and couch area was spacious. The bathroom had a small countertop, but was otherwise nice. My fiancée thought the bath products were of high quality. Breakfast was one of the better hotel continental breakfasts I've had, although it was in the other hotel.

The aforementioned construction made some things less convenient, but not terribly so. We heard very little noise from the third floor next to the elevators.
The staff were not overly friendly, but in the few interactions I had, they smiled and helped with my requests.
The elevators sometimes had unpleasant odors, but appeared to be fairly clean.
Parking deck was decent enough, and safe/secure.
Parking is $10/day, but they charge you by nights at the hotel (I paid $20 for Friday through Sunday).

I will mention that I got a good deal on the hotel through priceline, and that may have an affect on my level of satisfaction. I do think the rooms are on par with other hotels in its price range, though, and would recommend this hotel. I have also stayed at the Hilton nearby, which has far more impressive lobby and common areas, but the rooms are comparable.

“Great Stay”

Wyndham Garden Hotel - Atlanta Downtown

I stayed at the Wyndham for one night and really enjoyed the stay. The hotel is renovating right now but the room was very nice. The lobby is another story, but it was no problem with me. The room had a flat screen TV, a let out couch, and a little area with a desk for work or computer use. There was free wifi in the room and I had a strong signal. The room was nicely decorated with a contemporary look. If I had a negative it would be that you have to go to the Baymont, which is across from the hotel, to eat breakfast. But, the free deluxe continental breakfast was good. There were waffles, bagels, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, juices, etc.

I actually live in the Atlanta area. We decided to stay downtown for my husband's birthday. We ate at Ray's in the City, which was a few blocks away and the food was delicious!

I would stay here again. One more thing... parking is $10 per night. If you book through Priceline they don't tell you this. I did get a good rate through Priceline though.... I paid $64. (I bid $50, but once extra fees added it was $64), which isn't bad for a nice hotel downtown.

“Stay Elsewhere, If You Have The Choice”

POSITIVES: Free Wi-Fi, very comfortable bed and pillows, large LCD flat screen TVs, 24-hour Fitness Center (even though it is located in the adjacent hotel, The Baymont)

NEGATIVES: This hotel is undergoing a poorly managed renovation, and the staff is lukewarm at best. I booked this hotel because of its proximity to where I was conducting business all week in Atlanta. On their website, it stated that their "restaurant" is being renovated. As soon as you walk into the hotel, it is painfully clear that it's not just the restaurant being renovated. The entry way and guest corridors were also in varied stages of redo. The room numbers on the doors were simple computer generated b&w printouts that are cut to size using scissors and taped onto the door with scotch tape. I've been to other hotels where the redo is as invisible to the customer as possible. That wasn't the case at this hotel, making it seem dirtier than it probably already was. Housekeeping was horrible. There was carpet debris that didn't get removed for four days. The washer on the shower head had come off and didn't get repaired. Caulking around the tub and sink was sloppily done. And the maid took some coins from my room during one stay-over service that was clearly not meant for them. The amount was inconsequential (I believe it was about $1.00) but that's still called "stealing." Front Desk staff "friendliness" was nearly nonexistent. I experienced only one clerk who was exceptionally friendly; the rest sounded like they didn't want to be there. When I asked for a cab one rainy night, I was told to get it from the adjacent Baymont Hotel. I asked the clerk if she was expecting me to go out into the rain and get wet just to hail a cab that should have been easily attainable from the hotel. She simply responded, "Yes, that's how you do it." Needless to say, I was appalled but I didn't take it up with her. Clearly, the hotel management has done a poor job of training their front of house or creating processes that are guest-friendly. I paid over $200.00 per night at this hotel. I would've gotten better quality and higher service at a Motel 6 for much cheaper.

“Location was the only advantage”

Wyndham Garden Hotel - Atlanta Downtown

2 of 5 stars
Boston, MA
Jan 1, 2008

This hotel was part of a two hotel complex (Baymont Inn&Suites). As a result of this, all facilities were shared, making everything rather overutilized. The pool as well as the gym was constantly occupied. Also, they were part of the "other" hotel, so one has to walk quite far. If I had known, I would have booked with Baymont, would have had easier access to those facilites, and could have paid a lower daily rate.
Didn't really feel safe in the room either.

“Hmmm - not my best experience”

Wyndham Garden Hotel - Atlanta Downtown

Nov 20, 2007

Pros:
Rooms are nicely decorated and beds are very comfortable.
Free internet (very nice!!)
Restaurant is good (though not excellent).
Excellent price through hotwire

Cons:
Ongoing work and renovations noisy
My room had burnt out light bulbs, bad TV remote.
Water poured through ceiling of bathroom (when shower onabove)
Inattention to complaint about problem (though this was unusual)
Limited room service times - restaurant opens late, closes early
Little compensation after complaints

All in all - I would not stay here again. That said, I got what i paid for and in that regard it was worth it. I spoke with others that stayed here and they had better experiences. If your room is fine then you're all set. Otherwise, service is slow and not overly interested in making up for poor experience.
