My boyfriend & I stayed 1 night at the Clarion so that we would be near the airport for our early morning flight to Jamaica. Check-in went okay…..the desk clerk just asked me my name, had me sign a registration form, and handed me my keys. I was the only one in the lobby, yet he didn’t take the time to tell me about any of the hotel info, check-out time, etc. It was no big deal though —I just used all of the info guides that were provided in my room, which were very helpful. There was also a detailed map of the area, which helped us pick out a restaurant to eat at. There really are not a lot of good restaurants and such in the immediate area, but we did find a Longhorns Steakhouse nearby for dinner. We decided against the hotel restaurant because it seemed a little overpriced & we didn’t know what the food quality would be (it might be really good, I don’t know). Just be careful if you get room service, because at the bottom, the menu says that they charge some kind of 10-20% service fee, plus a delivery fee, plus tax!
As far as our room goes, I’ve included some pictures. The bedroom itself was great. The bed was comfortable, clean, plenty of pillows. There was lots of space! The décor was nice & updated. I liked the fact that all of our provided drinking cups for water & coffee were made of real glass rather than little paper cups. The shampoo/conditioner was a good brand (Neutrogena), instead of some cheap hotel brand. There were plenty of towels, etc.
The bad part of the room was the bathroom, for no other reason than that the particular housekeeper who cleaned it did a really bad job. I always give hotels the benefit of the doubt on finding a hair or two in the bathroom, since they have limited time to clean each room. But there was hair everywhere you looked in this bathroom—shower wall, tub, floor, sink. Plus the bottom of the tub really needed some deep cleaning, and we also found several open/half-used shampoo bottles in the shower. I had to tip-toe when I was in there & it grossed me out.
Since we were only there one night, I didn’t feel like complaining or switching rooms, so that was my choice, plus I had a really good room rate through my company. Had I paid full price, I might have decided to change rooms. Again, this was probably just the particular housekeeper who had my room, because the hotel itself was very nice and I’m sure the un-cleanliness of our bathroom was not their standard at all.
We also went to the pool. The outdoor pool was full of leaves and debris, probably from a recent storm. But the inside pool was very clean with a perfect water temperature and plenty of clean pool towels were provided.
I know that the hotel has an airport shuttle, restaurant, café, business center, & fitness area, but I’m sorry to say that I can’t give any info on that since we did not use those services.
I would still recommend the hotel, or at least give it another shot. Just be sure to check over your room (at any hotel) right away so that you can make sure its satisfactory before you settle in and get comfortable. I suppose I could suggest for this hotel that they more closely monitor the work of the cleaning staff (have a head housekeeper double-check rooms) so that they can prevent dirty bathrooms.
