“Nice hotel...some issues with cleanliness”

Clarion Hotel College Park

3 of 5 stars
Statesboro, Georgia
Jun 20, 2008

My boyfriend & I stayed 1 night at the Clarion so that we would be near the airport for our early morning flight to Jamaica. Check-in went okay…..the desk clerk just asked me my name, had me sign a registration form, and handed me my keys. I was the only one in the lobby, yet he didn’t take the time to tell me about any of the hotel info, check-out time, etc. It was no big deal though —I just used all of the info guides that were provided in my room, which were very helpful. There was also a detailed map of the area, which helped us pick out a restaurant to eat at. There really are not a lot of good restaurants and such in the immediate area, but we did find a Longhorns Steakhouse nearby for dinner. We decided against the hotel restaurant because it seemed a little overpriced & we didn’t know what the food quality would be (it might be really good, I don’t know). Just be careful if you get room service, because at the bottom, the menu says that they charge some kind of 10-20% service fee, plus a delivery fee, plus tax!

As far as our room goes, I’ve included some pictures. The bedroom itself was great. The bed was comfortable, clean, plenty of pillows. There was lots of space! The décor was nice & updated. I liked the fact that all of our provided drinking cups for water & coffee were made of real glass rather than little paper cups. The shampoo/conditioner was a good brand (Neutrogena), instead of some cheap hotel brand. There were plenty of towels, etc.

The bad part of the room was the bathroom, for no other reason than that the particular housekeeper who cleaned it did a really bad job. I always give hotels the benefit of the doubt on finding a hair or two in the bathroom, since they have limited time to clean each room. But there was hair everywhere you looked in this bathroom—shower wall, tub, floor, sink. Plus the bottom of the tub really needed some deep cleaning, and we also found several open/half-used shampoo bottles in the shower. I had to tip-toe when I was in there & it grossed me out.

Since we were only there one night, I didn’t feel like complaining or switching rooms, so that was my choice, plus I had a really good room rate through my company. Had I paid full price, I might have decided to change rooms. Again, this was probably just the particular housekeeper who had my room, because the hotel itself was very nice and I’m sure the un-cleanliness of our bathroom was not their standard at all.

We also went to the pool. The outdoor pool was full of leaves and debris, probably from a recent storm. But the inside pool was very clean with a perfect water temperature and plenty of clean pool towels were provided.
I know that the hotel has an airport shuttle, restaurant, café, business center, & fitness area, but I’m sorry to say that I can’t give any info on that since we did not use those services.

I would still recommend the hotel, or at least give it another shot. Just be sure to check over your room (at any hotel) right away so that you can make sure its satisfactory before you settle in and get comfortable. I suppose I could suggest for this hotel that they more closely monitor the work of the cleaning staff (have a head housekeeper double-check rooms) so that they can prevent dirty bathrooms.

“Nice hotel, Bad neighborhood”

Clarion Hotel College Park

3 of 5 stars
Raleigh, North Carolina
Apr 28, 2008

Hotel was recently remodeled (I was told about 1-2 years ago) and the facility is nice. However, the area around the hotel is very sketchy with many questionable characters. Another person from my company was approached and asked for money and I saw prostitutes outside the hotel property.

The rooms are spacious and kept clean. However they have very thin walls and you can easily hear into other rooms, hallways, and outdoors. Aircraft noise isn't a large problem but vehicles on the highway can be if you're in a north side room. Also on the second floor you can easily hear parties held in the banquet rooms on the first floor.

The airport shuttle runs every 30 minutes (top and bottom it leaves the airport and on the quarter hours leaves the hotel). The restaurant is quite pricey with average service. The hotel bar was nice and the bartender was great.

They have an indoor/outdoor pool (that is connected at the wall) and a hot tub. During my entire stay (over a week) the outdoor pools were closed. The weather was great outside but the indoor pool remained very cold (they blocked passage to the outdoor pool from the indoor pool). Decent workout room kept me happy.

Rooms lacked blinds capable of keeping the room dark. A major flaw that I'm finding more and more. Water pressure was up and down during most of my showers (not at prime times) but the temperature stayed pretty consistent. Not all rooms come with a mini-fridge and microwave so if you think you'll need them be sure to ask.

Outside the hotel there is a Waffle House (safe walk across the street), Piccadilly (asked for money on our way back from here), and a great little Mexican restaurant behind the Waffle House. There is another Waffle house and other things on the other side of the highway but I was told to avoid going over the bridge as it gets worse over there. Gas station is conveniently located next to the hotel.

“Fine for an Atlanta Airport delay”

Clarion Hotel College Park

3 of 5 stars
New Orleans, USA

I stayed here due to a flight delay and it seemed that many of the guests were there for the same reason. The room was large and relatively clean and service was acceptable. The neighborhood around the hotel seems to be having economic difficulties in that many of the establishments are closed, but there is a convenience store that is a five-minute walk that has most basic items. There are also fast food restaurants in the same area. I took the shuttle to and from the airport, which runs about every thirty minutes and takes about 15 minutes to get to the hotel. The hotel was fine for what I used it for, a stop due to a flight delay, but I would not use it as a vacation destination.

“Terrible experience at the Clarion”

Clarion Hotel College Park

Jan 10, 2008

We stayed at the hotel recently and were very disappointed. We originally booked for 3 nights but left after 2. The first night we arrived at the hotel about 6pm and decided to have dinner in the dining room. When we entered we noticed the restaurant was not very busy (around 3 other couples). We were seated and waited around 15 minutes before anyone approached our table. We had time to look around and noticed that the table next to us had 2 ladies’ that had ordered the Chicken Fingers Platter, which was huge. My husband and 6 year old son decided to each order a Platter. After waiting another 15 minutes and still not even having our drinks a bartender approached our table and asked if anyone had helped us. He brought us some drinks. When our food finally arrived it looked like 2 kid's meals instead of the adult platters that the other table received. When we complained the waitress stated that there was no discrimination. We slowly realized that we were a minority in the restaurant and had just experienced reverse discrimination. When we left the restaurant I went to the front desk and asked the Front desk clerk if they had any newspapers. She told me "NO" very rudely and said if I wanted a newspaper I could go to the convenience store down the street. We just went upstairs and went to bed. The next morning when we were leaving to go sightseeing I again asked the front desk if they had a local map. Again I was told to go down the street to the convenience store if I wanted a map. (I was beginning to think I should have stayed at the convenience store). We had a great time in Atlanta until we went ice skating and my son fell and hit his head. We stayed at the emergency room until around 1:30am. When we got back to the hotel it was around 2:15am. There was a huge party going on. We had to wait for someone to leave to find a parking space. The music was so loud you could hear it outside and all through the hotel. There were a lot of people hanging around outside the hotel drinking, cussing, and who knows what else. The lobby literally looked and sounded like a nightclub. We had to bring our 6 year old son who had a concussion through all of this. When we got on the elevator several drunken men got on with us and used such foul language. When we got off on our floor it had a group of drunken people hanging out. We hurried to our room and locked the door. The music and noise were so loud you could hear it very clearly. I have a special allergy pillow that I bring with me and keep in my suitcase I noticed that it had been stolen from my suitcase. When we called down and spoke with the manager he actually hung up on my husband. We called the 1-800 number and complained about our experience. They told us they could not move us that night but we could check out the next day. When I was getting ready the next morning I noticed someone had went through my makeup bag and crushed my eye shadow. We backed our bags and checked out. We called the corporate office and complained but they stated that since each hotel is owned independently they could not do anything. I did not know this was the policy since Clarion's policy is supposed to be 100% guarantee or your money back. This is obviously not the case. Clarion filed a report and we are still waiting to hear something from the hotel we stayed at. I do not reccommend staying at this hotel. It is not a family hotel and is in a bad part of town.

“Not bad”

Ended up staying here purely by accident, had a flight with Delta from Vegas to Atlanta then pick up our flight back to England but unfortunately something was wrong with the flight out of Vegas so we missed our connecting flight back to England. Delta put us up for the night and while at first we were all tired and fed up, in the end it wasn't to bad. These things happen and it was another day in our American Adventure. We didn't get to the hotel till late but everything was excellent from the accommodating front desk staff to the lovely rooms. If you need to stay near the airport then The Clarion is a perfect choice.
