Right before the Christmas holidays, I stayed at the Westin on two seperate occassions. Once for 1 night, once for 3 nights. The first time we stayed (my husband, mother, and I) we were on the 51st floor. Our room was a bit outdated and the carpet in our room and in the hallways was very dirty and in need of replacement. While my husband and I are Starwood Preferred Guests, we arrived early and were told that the "room reserved for us" was not ready, but that if we wanted to check in (at 10 a.m.!) that we could take another room. We agreed, since we were thrilled that we could check in that early. Well, after our 2nd visit, this time my husband, our 7 year old god daughter and her 9 year old sister, we wished that we would have waited for our "correct" room the first time around! We were put on the 61st floor, which is for Starwood Preferred Guests only. The room was much nicer, cleaner, and the hallways and floor carpets were a lot better than on the other floor. So, being a Starwood Preferred member is a good idea. Sign up before you go. The hotel is in a good location, very close to MARTA (Atlanta's train system), an easy walk to Olympic Park-a must see especially for the fountain shows-see times for shows at the park, and across the street from several dining options-Hard Rock Cafe, Hooters, McDonalds, etc. I would also recommend the Old Spaghetti Factory, on Ponce de Leon Ave. if you have time and have a car to get there. If you do visit the Spaghetti factory, ask if Ebony is working and try to be seated in her section. We have visited this restaurant countless times and she was fabulous to us and our kids. Their indoor pool was nice, though a little cool for my liking. The kids really seemed to like it. There was no hot tub, which I would have enjoyed. There were plenty of comfy chairs and towels around the pool though. The only complaints I have is that my husband requested to have a UPS package delivered to the hotel on the morning of our departure and it took them 30 minutes to find where they had put it. Also, they drained the pool (never gave a reason) and it wasn't to be opened again till the 30th. So, I was stuck with 2 restless kids who were very disappointed the pool was going to be closed for the duration of our stay. Thank goodness we were checking out the following day! The view from their restaurant, the Sundial, was awesome. Hotel guests can ride to the top for a look, even if you aren't planning to eat in the restaurant. Just show your room key to the person attending the desk. For non-hotel guests, the charge is $5. Parking is $20 per day, with unlimited ins&outs. We were very impressed with the parking attendants, as they got to know our names and were very prompt and courteous. Atlanta as a whole is a nice place to visit if you stick to the touristy locations. But, there seemed to be pretty rough folks all around the city. So, do your research. For business, it can't be beat. But, I don't think I'd plan a "real" vacation in this city. But, the Westin was a nice place to stay. We would return there. If you want the best view, ask for a room as high up as possible. They will try to accomodate you.

“Big Daddy Hotel”

The Westin Peachtree Plaza

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous...looks great in the Atlanta skyline. My wife and I spent one night there...Our wedding night. We arrived around midnight and left for our flight (to the Westin St. John U.S.V.I.) the next morning at 6:30am. However, the short period of time that we were there, everything was great. The beds were lovely...and the view from the bed was lovely. We also snuck a ride to the 70 or 80th something floor which was fun.

I suggest the Westin at Peachtree Plaza. This place is very impressive. It definitely rose to the ocassion on our wedding night.

“If you want the view, go to the restaurant.”

The Westin at Downtown Atlanta became my home for a short time while I was working on a project in downtown Atlanta and unfortunately it never felt much like home.

Despite having stayed at the hotel for over two months, I was still treated as an inconvenience every time I made a request. The final straw came when I was in my room on a non-smoking floor and it became obvious that the person in the room with whom I shared a connecting door was smoking in their room. I called down to the front desk to see if they could do something about it. All they did was send up two staff members to spray some horrible smelling deodorizer around the room and change the air filter in the air vent. Of course as soon as they were done they both stood at the door and stared at me as if they expected a tip. When they left, the room once again smelled of smoke as apparently the person next door had lit up again. I didn't bother to call down to the desk again as they had already refused to talk to the guest and said it would not be possible for me to change rooms.

This is only one example of the poor customer service at the Westin. If you are staying downtown, there are a number of other hotels that you can stay for a better price and get better treatment. If you are enticed by the view you will get at the Westin, I suggest you enjoy their restaurant at the top but stay elsewhere.

I was a bit weary about staying here after some of the reviews and i normally stay at the Omni, but was looking for a change.. Wow- was i impressed- from the valet service, to our luggage being brought up to our room within 15 mintues i could tell the staff knew how to take care of their guests- We ordered room service and it was quickly delivered- Don't worry about the room being small the view makes up for it- the bed is "heavenly" and we had a beautiful view of the Centennial park- We had drinks at the Sundial, which you must experience and took a swim in the pool- everything was perfect- i found a new place to stay in Atlanta from now on..

“Fun weekend”

The Westin Peachtree Plaza

Nice hotel. HUGE! Parking was smooth, but expensive. We were on a gift certificate that included parking or we wouldn't have stayed there. I am not so sure it is good for the money. Convenient to the Market, but not much else. Not the best area to explore ATL on foot. Highlight of our trip was dinner at Fogo De Chao. That is AWESOME! Our room service breakfast was great. But the mini bar is a rip!
