My friend and I spent 4 nights at the Extended Stay – Lenox in October. We normally stay with friends or family, but thought I’d give this hotel a try because we wanted to stay in Buckhead, and near the MARTA. We got an excellent deal using Hotwire. Here’s what we think:
THE GOOD: The location is very good if you're flying in and don't have a car, because it's across the street from the MARTA Oglethorpe/Brookhaven station (Northeast line). Coming from the airport, it takes about 35 minutes to get there and the train runs approx. every 10 minutes, and late into the night. You can take the train to the colleges and most of the tourist attractions – Underground Atlanta, the New World of Coca-Cola, the High Museum of Art, Centennial Olympic Park, the CNN Center, etc. just check out their website.
Kroger (24-hour grocery store) is about a block walk away, so you can fill the in-room fridge. Several restaurants and shops are also in the strip and in the one across the street (which also has a CVS drug store).
The queen room has a pull-out sofa, so you could sleep 3-4 if you needed to, and has a great kitchen, with a large refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker and dishwasher. Supplies for the dishwasher and coffee maker are available from the front desk if needed. The rooms have a DVD player as well, and the TV (only one) has a lot of cable channels.
THE BAD: The room isn't anything special; kind of small, as was the tub/toilet area. The pool was closed for the season, which I suppose begins in October and lasts through January. The weather was nice, but 78 degrees is hot enough for a pool. Although there was an exercise room, it only has 2 treadmills and a bicycle (although it does have a TV), and no free weights.
We had a room at the back of the hotel and could hear the train rumbling by, but that didn't bother us because you couldn’t hear it over the TV and it didn’t last long.
The “continental breakfast” is actually gourmet coffee, plain bagels & cream cheese, and fruit (apples, oranges & bananas). It lasts until 9:30am, and only during the week. This may be fine for some folks, but if I was actually staying here for an “extended stay”, I would have to get more variety by shopping at the grocery store.
THE UGLY: The furniture is just like it’s pictured in other postings and on the hotel’s site – plain and old-looking. The hallway sometimes had a smoky smell, even though it was a non-smoking area of rooms. The décor overall is dorm-like – rather sterile, boring and beige.
