“Realistic Review from a Realistic Traveler”

I don't understand all the hoopla. I suppose people staying in Atlanta are really nitpicky. First of all, I want one of the reviewers below to point out a downtown hotel in Atlanta where you do not have to valet your car at substantial cost. There are relatively few hotels located in downtown and all at huge increases in hotel fares as opposed to the Wyndham.

Parking the car was simple. I was given a ticket and the car taken away. There was no pressure to take my bags unlike many hotels and check in was smooth and easy. The hotel is very clean and professional - what I would expect from a Wyndham Hotel. The lobby was high end and the rooms are also typical of a Wyndham hotel - clean, new, well furnished and comfortable.

I paid a rate of $59 so I cannot complainin the least as I stayed a day earlier at a extendedstay hotel for more money that was practically a slum!

I am a frequent traveler of Wyndham Hotels and have rarely been disappointed. You get Hilton type accomodations for fraction of the price and as a ByRequest Member always get a free room amenity, free calls and free highspeed internet.

I highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in downtown Atlanta.

“The air going on/off startled me out of sleep constantly...”

Marriott Atlanta Downtown

I'm not a heavy sleeper, but I've never lodged somewhere that the air turning on/off caused such a startling "clang" before. Usually when I stay in a place, I turn the air on to drown out any extraneous noise and sleep fine. If I hadn't only been staying one night in this hotel, I might've asked to be moved to a different room. This was on the 7th floor. I even used the earplugs I'd brought, and tried to adjust the air controls to keep the air on for a longer time (there was no continuous-air option), but still was awakened many times during that night from the turning on-and-off. I faced the next day pretty bleary-eyed.
Otherwise, I enjoyed the room amenities, the friendly and helpful staff, and the breakfast bar. I was also relieved that the online reservation process worked so smoothly.
I have to say though that if there had been any available lodging nearby where I could park my own vehicle, I would have gone that route instead.

“Don't valet your car here!”

Marriott Atlanta Downtown

Well, I can start off by saying the valet service is where my problems started. You have to valet your car and it's $18. I stayed there for 2 straight nights never using my car. When they brought it back up when I checked out, it had been hit on the rear of the car. Over $400 in damages. Get this, the valet still expected a tip for bringing my car up!!! Completely ridiculous. I thoroughly washed my car before heading to Atlanta from Wilmington, NC, so I know it wasn't there previously. The valet service told me to fill out a damage report and I would receive a call from their claims adjuster. Luckily I also filed a police report. After almost two months, I'm still battling to get my car fixed. The people at the hotel were friendly, except for the manager who tried to put the blame of the damage on me. I was very unhappy with the results of this stay, not to mention the restaurant service and food was horrible. You can get the same hotel room at a Holiday Inn. I will not recommend this hotel. Go further down Peachtree Street to get better shopping and restaurants and stay somewhere that has no valet!

“Some honest observations”

I went to Atlanta for a conference from June 5th to 9th. I joined the Wyndham ByRequest for the free internet connection and free long distance phone calls. Using the free internet connection is tricky, especially if you have two or more computers. Apparently once a second computer uses the connection, the first computer cannot use it again. They didn't have the requested snacks and beverages ready in the room but delivered them after a couple phone calls. The room is really small, so small that they have to put the coffee machine RIGHT NEXT to the toilet. The bathroom stays steamy the whole time because there is no fan. The bed is comfortable and the staff is helpful. The restaurant is pretty good but I don't like the red and green ceiling light.

“Nice hotel & staff reaaly helpful”

Marriott Atlanta Downtown

We stayed at the Wyndham Atlanta Downtown for 2 nights in May 2005. The rooms were very nicely decorated and clean. We had signed up for the "By Request" programme (no extra cost) and all our requests were met, including the complimentary welcome refeshments and extra pillows!

The staff were really helpful and went out of their way to advise good restaurants, directions etc.

My only negative comments would be:

(1) The pool area wasn't as nice as the rest of the hotel
(2) The Downtown location was good for World of Coca Cola & CNN etc but after doing a bit of exploring, on staying in Atlanta again we would probably opt for the Buckhead area (more shopping and choice of restaurants)
