“Employee stole my Credit Card”

Embassy Suites Hotel Atlanta - Centennial Park

Feb 16, 2008

I'm sure I'm not the first person this has happened to, but I was mortified by how little the hotel cared!

My stay itself was fine, but the next day I got a call from my credit card company asking about unusual charges, and sure enough it was stolen! It was a new card, only ever used at the hotel, so I knew it was either taken from my room or at check-in. I immediately called the hotel to tell them what had happened, and although I was being very nice about it on the phone, the manager was very rude and told me "to quit making accusations I couldn't prove". 2 weeks go by, and police in another town catch the lady who has my card and she confesses it was originally taken by the desk clerk. I told hotel security this (wanting to make sure she was fired so no one else had to go through this), and was given the impression she would be fired. 2 more weeks went by and I check with the hotel to find she's STILL working at the desk..evidently hotel security left a message for the police, then dropped the issue when police didn't call back. I stepped in yet again and had police give the name to the hotel, but even then they would only suspend her because she wasn't officially charged yet. Georgia has very liberal firing laws, but they were more worried about getting sued over firing a thief than over their guest getting robbed. I also left a message for the General Manager about a month into all of this. He never returned my call, and to this day (2 months later) I've never gotten an apology from anyone at the hotel, for all the hassle I went through having my card stolen (they racked up a lot of charges in 1 day), or even a thank you for all the work I did helping police identify this woman so that they knew who was robbing their guests.

Moral of the story...they will be nice to you when you're a guest, but once you're gone they could not care less. Also, be sure to file a report with police, because even though your cedit card company may cover the charges, getting police involved is the best way to ensure the person may get caught and not do it again.

I stayed at this hotel last summer for a work-related conference. The location could not have been any better. The convention center was just a short walk away, and on the very little down time that I had, I was able to walk to Centennial Park, the Georgia Aquarium, and Coca-Cola museum. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The free breakfast was good, and food at Ruth Chris' steakhouse excellent. And, the staff was great in tracking down my FedEx deliveries! I would definitely stay here again if I were to return to Atlanta.

Just stayed here at the end of December. We enjoyed our stay. The check in was a breeze. The Georgia Aquarium is a very nice aquarium.

Pros:
a. Close to attractions - Georgia Aquarium, Coke Museum, CNN center, Georgia Dome, Phillips Arena, all within walking distance

b. Free Breakfast - standard cereal's,bagels, breads, fresh fruit, made to order omelets, eggs, sausage, bacon, juices etc. all very tasty.

c. rooms seem clean and comfortable: nice mini fridge, 2 flat panel tv's, 2 separate rooms - bedroom and living area separated by a door. a closet safe which is big enough to fit a laptop in. used the filtered water which tasted fine to me.

d. Evening free drinks and chips and salsa/ fitness center (sauna and enough work out equipment and space) Outdoor pool - didn't use too cold.

Cons:
a: the side of the hotel closest to the elevators is closest to the trains, which blow their horns at night and early am. I would avoid a room near this side next time. I didn't really think it was that disturbing and my kids (2,5 years old) thought it was great to see trains.

b.valet parking for $22 night in addition to your room price - other hotels include this with the price of the room, there are a lot of parking lots around the hotel which you can park at. The one across the street is not an overnight parking lot though. We parked in another lot. since we planed to walk to the attractions.

c. paying for internet in your room - most place that i have stayed include this for free, they do have a business center where you can access the internet and i believe the lobby area has free wireless internet.

d. uncomfortable couch in room

“Great location for downtown Atlanta”

Embassy Suites Hotel Atlanta - Centennial Park

Nov 30, 2007

Hosted a 4th of July party for my friends at this hotel. Guests are required to use valet parking at the cost of $20 dollars a day with full in/out privledges. Upon arrival, the valet was super backed up and I was unable to pull into the covered area and was blocking the left lane of traffic. Once in the valet area, my guests and I unloaded our bags and waited for the valet to come take my keys. I later found out that the valet parked my car right up against a bush, but I couldn't see any visible scratches.

We were able to check in quickly and our 4th floor room overlooked the park (was obstructed by some trees) and all of the festivities. The room was a typical embassy suites room: separate bedroom and living room, two tvs, 3 beds including a sleeper sofa, 1 well appointed bathroom, minifridge.... The managers reception was nice (as always) with free drinks, chips and pretzels.

After we got settled, our group decided to stake out a good place in the park to watch the fireworks, but to our dismay, the park was packed and there wasn't a good place to sit in sight. We went back into the hotel and was told by hotel staff that the fireworks would be easily visible from the pool deck.. and they were correct (1 picture). We were so close to the fireworks that there were ashes in the pool following the fireworks show.

Embassy Suites Hotel Atlanta - Centennial Park is walking distance from:

Attractions: Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, Georgia World Congress Center, Phillips Arena, Georgia Dome, CNN Center, AAM and Centennial Park.

Restaurants: Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (adjacent), McCormicks & Schmicks, Luckie Street Grill & Restaurant, Jocks and Jills Sports Bar

Like any downtown area, there will be a fair amount of beggars on the streets nearby.

“Comfortable bed, great location”

Embassy Suites Hotel Atlanta - Centennial Park

4 of 5 stars
Greenville, SC
Nov 26, 2007

My other half and I spent Thanksgiving Friday through Sunday here, and it was definitely a pleasant stay in room 643. With the exception of an odd (very odd) white stain that I happened to notice on the white sheer curtain of the window, the room was clean.

The couch in the living area was hard and definitely did not sit comfortably. If you don't plan to sit there, then you won't have a problem. The bed was super-comfy!

The bathrooms were decent enough in size, as was the clothing closet. In our room, the hairdryer was "missing in action" in the bathroom, and three holes remained in the wall where the unit used to be. I happened upon a portable one in the closet. Not the first place I would've looked...so ladies who might also need a hair dryer, you might want to look there. :)

Now, a warning for those who might use the hotel's shampoo and conditioner products. Wow, the stuff they had was awful for hair that borders oily. I'm not sure how it would do on dry hair, but for the normal-to-oily folks, it was bad. By Sunday, my hair was limp and begging for mercy. It's the first time in awhile that I've used a shampoo (notice, it wasn't a two-in-one...stricly shampoo) that left my hair feeling oily and icky. The conditioner wasn't much better--so thick and heavy that it plopped out of the bottle. Just say no to the hotel's product and bring your own if you're staying for more than a few days.

The evening refreshments were limited to chips with dip, but the drinks were served up readily. Two free drinks per guests, but please do bring a dollar or two to tip the server.

The first night, we had two pieces of chocolate in our room as part of the turn-down service. As a chocolate-addict, this was quite delightful to find. The second night, though, :( no chocolate. Darnit.

Breakfast the first morning we were there was great! There was a bit of a line for the personalized omletts, but as they were a healthy size, it was worth it. The second morning, though, found the potatoes and sausage unacceptably cold, the scrambled eggs not quite done, and things just generally "off." I must mention, though, that the staff in the restaurant at breakfast are great.

An earlier reviewer said that the water tasted funny. He or she is absolutely right. If you need to rinse your mouth out after brushing your teeth, the hotel has installed a smaller faucet in the restrooms with filtered water. Be sure to use that.

One last thing...the parking. Yes, it's an additional $22 "overnight" and it does have unlimited in-out privileges. What's not mentioned is that if you plan to leave your car past check-out time, expect to pay an additional $12 for this service. Hmm. Although I understand that, I certainly didn't like it. So, plan accordingly.

If you choose to stay on the park side, ask for a room closer to the horizontal center of the hotel. Staying in room 643, on the right side of the hotel, meant that when we laid in bed, we had a great view--of buildings. :( If we flipped around, with our heads near the foot of the bed, we had a much better view. So, if you want to be able to lay in bed, and stare down at the people, get one of those center rooms. :)

All-in-all, with the price I had for the hotel, the location, and the amenities, I would absolutely stay again. In fact, I may book a room there for the parents!
