“Great deal - great property!”

Marriott Cambridge

5 of 5 stars
Longmeadow, MA
Jul 13, 2008

Just stayed here on Friday night 7/11/08. Got the room for $80 on Priceline while lowest online rate was $179. What a great deal! Asked for a river view upon checkin (around 3:15pm) and was given one on the 18th floor. The rooms have ceiling-to-floor corner windows which are beautiful. The bed was amazing with unbelievably soft pillows and mattress. Nice large widescreen flat TV too. I did a little research before going and I knew the hotel's overnight parking was $22. There's a Pilgrim Parking garage right around the corner (5 minute walk) that charges only $7 after 4pm until 6am, and then it's $7 a day on Sat/Sun. So we only paid $14 since we left around 3pm Saturday. I think the internet access fee is $6 for 20 minutes or something crazy like that but we were in for a Red Sox game and didn't need to use the business center anyway. The hotel is right at the Kendall Sq/MIT red line stop on the T, so it's so convenient to get around the city.

Highly recommend this property!

Stayed here for one night. Typical Marriott I cna always count on them. Good location--on top of the Kendall Sq T stop. Walked from Harvard Sq. back to the hotel late at night (3 of us) and had no problem.

“Just ok”

Marriott Cambridge

3 of 5 stars
Cambridge, UK

We stayed here for one night while my husband had a business meeting near Kendall Square. The location is brilliant - right on top of the T station. There's not a lot nearby but we did get a table for dinner at the Legal Seafoods just a couple of blocks away.

The hotel was fine - rooms were clean, of a good size and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The aircon was quite noisy but very effective. However, the room wasn't really anything special and was a little bit dated. The corporate rate booked was $299 which to be honest i thought was quite a lot for what we got.

I had two major gripes. One was that the bathrooms are TINY. Literally just room for a small bath and toilet - the hand basin is in a small dressing area outside the bathroom. I found this slightly odd to be honest - and may be a problem if you were sharing with a friend or whatever rather than a significant other.

The second thing that disappointed me was the quality of the room service breakfast. It was very basic and really small portions (the "fruit" was just a couple of strawberries chopped up basically). The toast was pre-buttered and had cling film over the plate so it had gone pretty soggy - and the coffee was not good.

Overall, if you can get a good rate here and you need to be in the area, then its fine, but I'd probably go for a Boston hotel next time.

“okay room, terrible service”

I spent two nights at the Marriott Cambridge while visiting MIT. The location is great if you need to be at MIT. The rooms are smallish, with very small bathroom counters and terrible lighting in the bathroom. On the positive side, the room was clean and had a flat screen TV.

My biggest problem was with the service. I specifically asked for a room with no adjoining door when I check in, but when I got to the room (on the very slow elevator) the room had an adjoining door. They quickly moved me to another room. However, in the process of making the change, they evidently changed my reservation to 1 night, instead of two. The next morning a bill was under my door. I called down and the very rude front desk person told me that I had only a night reservation. I finally got her to change the reservation back to two nights. I also noticed that they had charged my credit card for the room even though MIT was paying for the room. I told the front desk person of this and she told me the room was being paid by MIT. I tried to explain to her that the bill clearly showed the room being charged to my credit card and she started yelling at me! I got off the phone and called back later that night hoping to get a more reasonable person. This person said she saw the problem and would correct it. The next morning, same problem. I called down and got the same rude person from the morning before. This time she tried to hang up on me, but I insisted on speaking to the manager. The manager fixed the problem. When I went to check out I asked to speak to the manager and described the problem to me. He just stood there with a smirk on his face, obviously not concerned in the least about the rude service I received. He did offer to add some points to my Marriott rewards account, which was nice, but I thought he would have shown more concern about the poor service I received. I spent 20 nights last year at the Marriott chain, but I won't be back to this Marriott.

“A college visit at MIT”

Marriott Cambridge

4 of 5 stars
Crescent City, CA

Staying here is a perfect spot if you want to visit either MIT, Boston University, or Harvard. It’s literally right across the street from MIT, which is right across the river from Boston University. Harvard is a short subway trip to the north, which takes only about 10-15 minutes.

Check in was smooth, except they did not have a room with two double beds as we had reserved, so we ended up with a king and a hide-a-bed. That worked for our situation, but I can imagine groups that would not be so accommodating. The first real problem occurred at the airport. We had checked 3 bags in San Francisco, but only 2 made it to Boston with our flight. The third bag somehow ended up on a later flight. After discovering this problem by talking with the United help desk, we arranged for the late bag to be delivered to our hotel that same evening. The front desk person told us the bag would be delivered directly to our room, however, this didn’t happen. When the front desk called around midnight to tell us the bag had arrived, we again asked to have it delivered to the room. After lying awake, waiting for the knock on the door, I strolled to the lobby in my pajama’s to check on the situation. I found my bag stashed in the corner on a baggage chart. It looked like it would have been there for a long time had I not made the trip to the front desk.

However, aside from that small problem, the remainder of our stay was great. We arrived fairly late in the evening, so stayed in the hotel for dinner. We tried the MC2 restaurant on site. The service there was very nice and the food was generally very good. I ordered the salmon and the first piece arrived a bit too raw for my liking. I asked our waitor to have it cooked a bit more and to my surprise, he returned with an entirely new plate. He then stood by to make sure this second piece was cooked to my liking. Unfortunately, it also proved to be a bit too raw for my tastes, so he took it away and returned yet a third time with another fresh plate. This third piece was just right. Imagine our surprise when they didn't charge us for the salmon dinner, feeling the problem was theirs, not ours. I would have gladly paid for the meal, but appreciated their generous gesture.

The room was well furnished and quiet. The internet cost money, but so does everything in Boston. The Starbucks downstairs made an ideal breakfast stop for us before we walked across the street to check out MIT.

Over-all it was a very nice stay, even though it was brief.
