Staying here is a perfect spot if you want to visit either MIT, Boston University, or Harvard. It’s literally right across the street from MIT, which is right across the river from Boston University. Harvard is a short subway trip to the north, which takes only about 10-15 minutes.
Check in was smooth, except they did not have a room with two double beds as we had reserved, so we ended up with a king and a hide-a-bed. That worked for our situation, but I can imagine groups that would not be so accommodating. The first real problem occurred at the airport. We had checked 3 bags in San Francisco, but only 2 made it to Boston with our flight. The third bag somehow ended up on a later flight. After discovering this problem by talking with the United help desk, we arranged for the late bag to be delivered to our hotel that same evening. The front desk person told us the bag would be delivered directly to our room, however, this didn’t happen. When the front desk called around midnight to tell us the bag had arrived, we again asked to have it delivered to the room. After lying awake, waiting for the knock on the door, I strolled to the lobby in my pajama’s to check on the situation. I found my bag stashed in the corner on a baggage chart. It looked like it would have been there for a long time had I not made the trip to the front desk.
However, aside from that small problem, the remainder of our stay was great. We arrived fairly late in the evening, so stayed in the hotel for dinner. We tried the MC2 restaurant on site. The service there was very nice and the food was generally very good. I ordered the salmon and the first piece arrived a bit too raw for my liking. I asked our waitor to have it cooked a bit more and to my surprise, he returned with an entirely new plate. He then stood by to make sure this second piece was cooked to my liking. Unfortunately, it also proved to be a bit too raw for my tastes, so he took it away and returned yet a third time with another fresh plate. This third piece was just right. Imagine our surprise when they didn't charge us for the salmon dinner, feeling the problem was theirs, not ours. I would have gladly paid for the meal, but appreciated their generous gesture.
The room was well furnished and quiet. The internet cost money, but so does everything in Boston. The Starbucks downstairs made an ideal breakfast stop for us before we walked across the street to check out MIT.
Over-all it was a very nice stay, even though it was brief.
