I am staying here to attend a conference held at this hotel, so the accommodations are paid for - $169/night. Let me begin by saying I would not stay here if given the choice.
Upon check-in at 9pm Monday night, I asked for a renovated room (due to prior reviews and this fact being published on their website that there are renovated rooms). The receptionist responded with "our renovated rooms are currently out of commission" - not "we don't have any left" or "your rate does not cover these rooms". I knew this was not true, but I did not think it was worthwhile to argue and took what I got.
I walked into a musty room, you know, the humid feeling on a hot day when the fan is blowing but not the air conditioner. To my surprise, the air conditioner was definitely on, but the room still had a very humid feel - it still does.
There are stains on the carpet, window curtains, and markings on the walls. One part of the window curtain broke off from the rod so it does not shut all the way (I'm using my hair clip to hold it together). I can't leave the curtains open because I face the courtyard and there are guests across the way. Two of the lamps do not work, I didn't do anything about this since the other lamps provided enough lighting. The shower has one of those cheap shower curtains that blow around and stick to you while you shower. I have even spotted a couple of fruit flies! Worst part is.. the walls are so thin, I could literally hear every single word my neighbor spoke as well as their TV choices.
It's a pretty long walk over to the Bourbon St area. It's fine during the day, but I probably wouldn't do it alone at night. There's a mall attached to this hotel, but there's just a bunch of touristy stores that sell miscellaneous items nobody ever buys.
I do have one nice thing to say about the room, it's very spacious and seems larger than a standard size hotel room. That's about it.
I guess if I got a super cheap rate for this room, I would stay here again, it's not unlivable or anything.. just would not think this room lives up to a Hilton name or 4 stars - maybe a Holiday Inn?
One last piece of information to confirm other reviews - you have to pay for the wireless internet and to use the gym.
