“Wonderful Honeymoon Hotel!”

Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans

Jun 20, 2008

When I booked the hotel, the agent was very nice and helpful. I thought the rooms with jacuzzis were outrageously expensive, but if you can, I'd recommend splurging for a balcony room. One of the best nights we had was eating crawfish, drinking beer and people watching on our balcony. It is awesome to be this close to Bourbon St, but bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper...as soon as the bars close, then the restaurant vendors start shouting to entice people in for breakfast. For a hotel this nice, I thought there would be a little more soundproofing within the rooms; we could hear our neighbors a little bit, and I'm sure they could hear us ;)
The staff was wonderful; I told them we we on our honeymoon & they sent up a nice complimentary bottle of champagne. The conceirge was especially helpful. And the beds...you won't want to get out of them! Pillows were sooo soft! Overall, wonderful stay & a great time in New Orleans!

“Great location!”

This hotel has restaurants, bars and even a Starbucks in the lobby. Life saver after those lonnng nights. The hotel is located right on Bourbon but it is down a couple blocks from the rowdy part of Bourbon. The rooms were very nice and paying the extra $100 a night for the balcony was worth it for us, but unless you are planning on staying up late I wouldn't recommend a balcony room because it is loud pretty late. This was our first trip back to New Orleans since Katrina and you can't even tell there was a tragedy. New Orleans is back, just a little quieter than it used to be. Had an awesome time and the staff was wonderful! Highly recommend!

“Right on Bourban Street, Classy French QTR Hotel”

Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans

Location excellent- right on Bourban street so you dont need to rent a car or take taxis. Classy upscale hotel with all the southern charm and great ammenities. Quiet fountain garden in the center of the hotel. You cant hear the noise of Bourban Street in this oasis. We stayed on the executive level on the 7th floor. Club room provides a nice breakfast buffet and evening drinks with a great variety of food. Internet is free in the club room, nice balcony overlooking the sunrise or sunset. Great oyster bar in the hotel and they are opening a new lounge soon. We did a swamp tour and city tour. Both are worth doing. We had older kids with us and they enjoyed everything New Orleans had to offer. We loved the people. Resilient, high spirited and an inspiration to see how they are recovering. Hotel is approximately 20 mintes from the airport. Taxi fare is approx $40. Rooms had huge flat screens, hairdryers, stocked refridgerator, ironing boards and iron, shampoo etc... Turn down service with chocolates all that you would expect. They have great meeting rooms and this hotel is charming.

“Had a great time!”

Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans

4 of 5 stars

We splurged and booked two Bourbon Street balcony rooms for a post-graduation celebration with our two young adult daughters. Although the hotel itself is a little long-in-the-tooth, its location on lower Bourbon Street can't be beat. There are nicer, fancier hotels and inns nearby, but we chose the Royal Sonesta specifically for its location. Yes, it's noisy and you can hear music and rowdy crowds until late at night, but we anticipated this too. Bourbon Street was busier for an early June Monday and Tuesday night than I would have expected, but we had fun sitting on the balcony, throwing beads at the crowds who happened to walk by.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — It's location on lower Bourbon Street.
    • Disliked — Lack of amenities, like in-room coffee service.

“exactly what we were looking for”

Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans

Jun 3, 2008

All around this was a very nice and enjoyable hotel. The lobby was beautiful, our room was very nice and clean, and the pool area/courtyard were beautiful. As another reviewer commented -they need to replace the carpet in the rooms, but otherwise the rooms were great. The beds were fantastic - nice bed linens and pillows. We didn't have any of the other reviewers problems with noise at night. The toilets were very loud, but other than that the room was quite. The employees were all very friendly and helpful. Great location right on Bourbon Street.
