“Simply awesome!!!!”

The Lamothe House

I want to share my experience with The Lamothe House with everyone. We went to New Orleans for a vacation, and booked a room here. We got one of the one beadroom suites, which was beautiful. The staff was very accomidating from the get go. Then, a few days into our vacation, my best friend and travel companion ended up in the hospital with a serious condition. The Lamothe House
not only called and checked on us, but offered to pack up our things, offered us extended stay, and keep our stuff in a secure area until we could get it. They even helped us load up when we returned, and the support of the staff there made it a truly special experience in such a stressful time. I HIGHLY recommend it :)

“Lovely Place to Stay!”

The Lamothe House

Apr 29, 2008

I cannot understand the negative reviews. My son and I stayed for JazzFest 2008 and could only spend half our stay here as they were booked over the latter half- but regretted having to leave for Embassy Suites- a generic fancy suite hotel. The pool was very clean and lots of fun for my 7 year old every morning. We loved breakfasting on our private terrace and found the stay very quiet- no noise from anywhere. The 19th century furnishings were lovely. The public areas were clean and beautiful. Great reasonable rates and great location - near the cable car, the river and all of the French Quarter and great music around the corner on Frenchmen Street. Very nice staff! Everyone was pleasant and helpful. Just a couple of screws needed to be tightened but felt very safe! Even found out that the Laura Plantation owners had build the houses next door to us- something that made our plantation visit even the more special!

    • Liked — the pool and feeling of a real property, the 19th century elegance
    • Disliked — a doorknob that needed repair

Staff unfriendly and unconcerned. We had booked accommodations for four days, but after arriving and reviewing our room and the general appearance of the property, we decided we could not stay at this place. The room was dingy, smelled musty and the place seemed unsafe. The pool was cloudy with algae and the entire place was decrepit and creaky. Did not feel safe in the room I was assigned. Lighting so poor you could not not read a book if you wanted to.Highly suggest you stay away unless you are severely short on funds, You get what you pay for!

“Great location, great price, great time!”

Great location, across Esplanade from the quarter between Chartres and Royal. We took the train to New Orleans and a cab from the train station to the house (~$13). We walked everywhere and rode the street car from Canal street over to the Garden District. With this location, a good pair of walking shoes, and being healthy enough to walk everywhere, you don't need a car.
Before the trip, I was a little concerned about safety. Those concerns turned out to be completely unfounded. We got to the house late (about 9:30 pm), checked in and left on foot after 10:00 on a Monday night. We walked up Esplanade a few blocks to Port of Call for one of the their famous HUGE burgers. At 11:00 that first night, we walked down Bourbon and zigzagged our way back to the house, getting back well after midnight.
We booked through bookit.com and got a fantastic rate. The room we had was on the backside of the complex - room 116. It was basically like a hotel room except it had old wood floors and period furniture. The room is on the first floor of the carriage house on the backside of the property. The door to the room opens out onto the sidewalk. This is the only room that does that. The rest of the doors to the rooms are inside the main house or inside the gated courtyard. At first, I was a little worried about safety, but we just checked the sidewalk through the window before opening the door to leave. Never had any issues.
The refrigerator in our room didn't work and when we told the staff, they already knew. It was a little inconvenient, but we got by fine with ice. But if they know about the refrigerator not working, go pick one up at Walmart for $79! It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room. Basically, we just used the room for sleeping so we weren't there much.
Bottom line - great location at a great price. If I go back to N'awlins and I can get that bookit.com rate again, I'm staying at the Lamothe House.
Almost forgot - one of the highlights of the trip - we ran into Noah Wyle (Dr. Carter on E.R.) filming a movie in one of the old cemeteries in the Garden District. Nice guy. Didn't mind posing for a photo with the fiance.

“An Amazing Value!!”

After reading some of the reviews on here, I thought I should call the property itself about a reservation. Boy am I glad I did. I got an amazing deal by calling them directly. We spent two nights in the guest house. A king suite with a jacuzzi tub and a walk in shower. It was well-appointed and very comfortable. It felt extremely private. While it is a couple of blocks from the actual French Quarter, it is well worth the money. Be sure to check out the Faubourg Marigny. The Lamothe House is gorgeous and the main House is located directly on Esplanade. We negotiated for free parking and a free breakfast, although we never woke up early enough for the breakfast. The free parking is a HUGE bonus. We left the car for the whole weekend and walked everywhere which was a great idea. We experienced so much of the quarter that way. You can't go wrong with the Lamothe House!!!
