“great for party not for privacy”

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel

Houston, TX

stayed here for a wedding. Great location to restaurants and bars, in the heart of the French quarter. The service however could be better. The front desk did not have maps handy and few knew their way around town. Room service knocked on our door three times before 9:30am on Sunday morning. The walls and doors are paper thin so we heard all hallway conversations and the discussions the couple next door had. The valet and bell boys were polite and prompt. There are other hotels near the action with better service, insulation and similar price.

“Pleasant Stay”

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel

We loved the Bourbon Orleans. The location is perfect and noise was not a problem in our room. The room was not very big but it was comfortable and served the purpose. The decor was above average and the amenities fit the bill.

The best feature of the hotel (other than the location) is the great courtyard and pool. We loved it and can't wait to visit again.

“NEVER AGAIN”

TRY ANOTHER HOTEL FIRST. We must have had the same server in the hotel restaurant that the previous reviewer had!! She also had issues with timely serving. When our breakfast order (for 4) was finely taken and farrived, we had to remind her about the cream for our coffee yet again. When it was delivered in a chipped one serving pitcher, we were told to share it); told us to get the jellies from the next vacant table (when asking about jam) and that she had to handle room service next--perhaps making this her excuse for poor service?!! I think management may be short on staff and are putting the wrong people in the wrong jobs due to labor shortages right now? We had a confirmed reservation number for a king bed, but upon check-in, "computer" said queen, and there was no changing that--sorry! So we paid king rates for a queen bed because the computer said there was a king bed in the room?!! This was really irritating as the hotel had availability and their internet server had a "spring special" going on, as well as an advertised "queen" rate. Never called and offered to move us, even upon asking of king availability (due to the fact the computer said we had a king room??) They didn't even come down and check the room to see--very strange!! Employee attitude was poor. At the beginning of our stay, we kept trying to explain ourselves and ask for a manager, we were informed we had been speaking to the manager (one of the desk help)(?!). We were only staying 3 nights, and didn't want to fight with staff the entire trip, so quit even trying as the frustration would ruin the trip. Room service order arrived incorrectly (no croissants that day) so delivered what they wanted, no call to see what else we'd like (we didn't dare wait and see how long it would take to correct the order--so ate it as is). Its a shame, cause the room we had (looking at the pool) was quiet and nicely furnished, great location, but I'd never stay there again.....if you do, get everything in writing prior to your stay, don't rely on the confirmation number.

“Location, Location, Location - Loved the Bourbon Orleans”

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Portland, OR
Apr 5, 2008

Our room was perfect - lovely, clean, on the top floor with a balcony overlooking Orleans Street. Enjoyed sitting outside on the balcony watching the action below. We could hear Bourbon at night but it was distant sounds and did not keep us awake. I think from reading all the reviews that the make it or break it with this hotel is where the room is located. Book a double for a larger room and request a balcony room NOT on the Bourbon side, and you will love it. Easy walking distance to all French Quarter attractions. Simply couldn't have a better location. This was our first time in NOLA and I loved the city, the people and the food!

“NIGHTMARE!”

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel

First, our room was right by the second floor bar, and we had loud dance music blaring all night, plus drunk people trying to hook up right outside our door. We called security, but no avail. We were up every two hours both nights asking people to please go elsewhere. It was like staying outside a very loud brothel. Next, parking was $30 a night, something the hotel does not tell you until you are there with no choice. Even the Marriott only charges $10 a night for valet. Next, the $16 a head buffet breakfast (biscuits and fruit) was worth maybe $8 in New Orleans, and we were disappointed, when the table next to us was informed that waffles, omelets, pancakes, and French toast were also available with the buffet. When we asked our server, she said, "Oh, yeah, well, I'm busy, I gotta do room service, too, and I didn't want to bother with you." It really set a terrible tone to our day. Finally, we were double charged for our room (charged twice the rate we were quoted, and I confirmed that rate when I checked in). When I asked the desk, I was told, "Well, honey, we got your credit card number. Your only choice is do you want this credit card charged, or do you want to give me another one?" I tried to talk to the manager, I tried everything, but I had been taken. Honestly, I go to New Orleans a lot, and I would recommend one of the well known hotels on Canal or a B&B in the Marigny. This hotel has a great location, but it is a pit of thieves.
