“Great Value, Great Location, Great Times in NOLA...”

Best Western Saint Christopher

Apr 7, 2008

Where else can you get a Brand Name hotel just feet from the French Quarter for 89.00 a night?

I'm a 27 y.o. laid back male from NYC who was down there for a bachelor party. We didn't need luxury, nor did we want anywhere that was falling down or gross.

All ten people in our group agreed that this hotel was amazing for what we needed. It's location is probably the best part; right across the street from the FQ and just 2 blocks from Harrah's casino.

Rooms, although small, were super clean. Bathroom was spotless and check-in was a breeze. Delania at the front desk is one of the sweetest people we encountered down there.

In the morning there is a little breakfast area where you can get snacks, coffee, tea, juices, etc. It's the same area where the bar is, although I must say the bar was never open. It's all good as there is a bar or 2 or 16 right down the street!

If I had an unlimited budget and I wanted more amenities, I may stay elsewhere but for what we needed, this place was phenomenal. In fact, if I went back with my wife I would probably stay at this hotel.

The value and location simply can not be beaten!

“A skylight over the bed?”

Best Western Saint Christopher

2 of 5 stars
Phoenix, Arizona
Mar 11, 2008

We stayed at the St Christopher in New Orleans for about 6 nights back in 2005 after getting a good deal from Hotwire.

The hotel has a great location, just a couple blocks off of Canal street so it is easy walking distance to the French Quarter and all the attractions, without having the noise from Bourbon street party goers to keep you awake.

The service was fair, a bit below average in friendliness and caring but that may have changed over the past 3 years.

The room we had was on the second floor and apparently the building had undergone some remodeling at some point because I don't think the room would have intentionally been designed the way it was. As we entered the room it was like a hallway with the bathroom off to the right and the bedroom straight ahead. In the bedroom were two square pillars at the foot of the bed which seemed very out of place and rather in the way.

The biggest problem I had with the room was the first morning when the sun came up it shone directly into the huge skylight in the ceiling directly over the bed! This thing was massive in size and had no shades or covering to block the light. We had to go buy eye masks to wear while sleeping because they were unable to change our room.

The room had no other windows, so perhaps they kept the skylight there so you would not feel like you were in a tomb, but they should at least have had some sort of covering on it to prevent a rude awakening every morning. Unless there on business I doubt many visitors to New Orleans rise with the sun each morning....unless you're in that room where you have no choice.

Most of the building is a high rise, we just happened to be in a section across the front that was only two stories high. Directly under our room was the bar where they had live entertainment which was easily heard in our room. So, not only could you not go to bed early because of the music, you could not sleep in because of the skylight. And did I mention the loud air conditioning in that room?

Sleep was sorely lacking during that trip.

No doubt the rest of the hotel has better, friendlier accommodations, we just happened to get stuck with (what I assume is) the worst room in the hotel.

The bathroom was nice with tile floor and newer fixtures, but no counter space or shelves to put your things. Pretty, but a poor design for a hotel.

This experience has caused me to stop letting Hotwire pick my hotel, I'll pay a higher price to know I won't get stuck in a room like that again.

Looking back now we can laugh about the experience of staying there, but at the time it wasn't the least bit amusing. If you plan to stay at the Best Western St Christopher, make sure in advance that you don't get the room with the skylight over the bed.

“Best Western St. Christopher Rocks!”

Best Western Saint Christopher

4 of 5 stars
Carlsbad, CA
Feb 24, 2008

I stayed at the Best Western St. Christopher from February 5th through the 9th. I originally chose this hotel b/c I was in town for a conference, and it was close to the conference headquarters. I was very pleased with the experience.

Location:
It is on Magazine and Canal Street. You can cross Canal and take Decatur down to the river and Cafe du Monde (about a 10 minute leisurely stroll). You can also cross Canal and take that about 3 blocks down to Bourbon Street. All of the French Quarter is within a matter of blocks from the hotel. There was a huge liquor/convenience store at the corner with probably every snack food known to man and tons of souvenirs.

Accommodations:
The room was small by US standards but large by European standards. The beds were only doubles which was a bit of a discomfort as I was traveling with 2 other girls and it was a little tight with 2 in a bed. I guess if you were with a significant other, it wouldn't be as uncomfortable. The pillows were also very thin, but manageable. The room was immaculate, and had a wonderful view of the city. The bathroom was quite large but it didn't have a fan to help with the steam, and you couldn't open the window. The exposed brick in the bedroom was lovely.

Hotel Common Areas and Staff:
The hotel was very charming. It was nicely decorated, very bright, and airy. We only saw the bar open once, and it looked like a good place to hang out. The breakfast was amazing AND included. It had the standard cereals, pastries, yummy cheeses, juice, coffee, AND a make your own waffle station!!! It was excellent. The hotel staff was sooooo nice. There was a sign at the check in counter alerting guests to a $50 per night deposit which would be returned to your card 7 days after check out...I mildly mentioned my concern with this to the girl at the counter and she said I didn't have to pay the deposit and that it was no problem. The staff really went out of their way to be friendly.

I loved the Best Western St. Christopher...I will definitely stay there again when I go back to New Orleans!

PS- the people of New Orleans are utterly amazing. Everyone...really...Everyone was nicer than anyone I have met anywhere! Just walking down the street with a map, every other person stopped to offer their assistance or give suggestions. It was the hospitality of this vibrant city, that will definitely bring me back.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. It is a converted warehouse (or something like that), and there are exposed brick walls on at least one wall in the room. Nice look. Clean rooms. Bathrooms are all new and clean. Pedestal sink and nice, clean tubs/showers. Just a bit of 'good' quirkiness. It's about a hundred feet off Canal, which is a main street, but it seemed quiet enough. Just across Canal is the French Quarter and Bourbon Street no more than a five minute walk (or less). The casino is just a short walk down Canal. You can park your car in front of the hotel and unload, then drive straight down to the first traffic light (about two or three short blocks) and there is an open lot where you can park for $15-$20 per day. when you're ready to leave, just pull the car around the block and park in front of the hotel and load up. They have an okay continental breakfast. The usual. The nice thing is that the coffee machine was on 24 hours, so if you want coffee late at night, it's available in the lobby.

The lobby isn't fancy and the front of the hotel isn't going to take your breath away, either, but the room was nice with new bathrooms. Probably the only negative (and it's not huge) was that the carpet in the room could have used a cleaning.

I'd recommend this hotel based on my experience. Also, the only other slight negative was that when we first got to the hotel, there was nobody at the front desk and it took about five minutes for anyone to come out of the back room to the front. But, the guy was nice and the girl in the morning was nice, too. So, all in all, not a bad choice.

“Decent hotel. Just dont expect customer service.”

Overall, the hotel is in fairly good condition and defintiely a good value for its price. It also has great location with French Quarter and Herrah's within 2 minutes of walking distance. If you have car, expect to pay $31/day for parking.

I do have complaints though. I've been to many hotels over the years but I have never complained about the customer service until I stayed at this hotel. I wont go into details but dont expect any customer service. The check in was horrible as well as the checkout. The people in this hotel are either rude or just incompetent. Be sure to check your bill! Also, I didnt leave any tip one day and I found stack of towels on my bed. I dunno. Maybe the maid was really busy that day. the sheets arent changed each day, as I found hair on my bed. There was also used tissue stuffed the the tissue box as well as something disgusting on the headboard.

Anyways, the hotel has good points and bad points and I think the good points outweigh the bad ones overall. But I persoanlly would not pick this hotel as my first choice for sure though.
