“It served the purpose. Liked the location.”

We just got back from a long weekend in NOLA and stayed at the ALexa. This hotel is really the bare bones sister of the adjoining hotel, the Astor. WHen we arrived, Wednesday evening, there were 2 clerks at the desk discussing their dinner orders. They were pleasant, but spent more time talking to each other than taking care of our checking in. There was no bellhop to speak of, but we didn't have a problem with that. Our room was on the 4th fl. facing Canal St. It was on the dark side, but I don't think as dark as those facing the inner courtyard. The room was a decent size (we had 2 queen beds for a family of 4). There were definitely signs of wear and tear, but there was also an attempt at charm and it was clean. Overall it was nicer than a Holiday Inn, but not as nice as a Marriott.

We did have a problem with the TV remote and one of the phones. We also requested extra pillows. They did respond rather quickly to these situations. There was one day when I put out the 'Maid Service Please' sign when we left in the morning, when we returned at 3:30, the room still wasn't cleaned. We called and also told the front desk as we went out again. They finally did come and clean at that point.

The location can't be beat, and it was quiet at night. The Bourbon House restaurant, located in the adjoining Astor hotel was very nice for dinner, but a disappointment for breakfast (walk the 2 blocks to the Marriott for a great breakfast buffet).

We had no problem getting a late checkout (actually not all that late, 1pm, but better than 11), they also arranged for a taxi back to the airport, and held our luggage for a few hours after we did check out.

We didn't have a problem with dark scarey corridors when we came and went through the Astor lobby.

If you get a good deal, and are looking for a place that 'serves the purpose', the ALexa is fine. If you are looking for elegance, and lots of amenities you may want to look elsewhere.

We stayed for three nights at this hotel. The room was small by US standards and although clean the bottom of the bath looked grubby. There was manypeople staying for a convention and the we were worken by people shoulting each night between 2 and 4 am. People were playing ball in the corriders although when told about this security did go and speak to the people concerned. We found the staff polite and helpful. The adjoining Plaza hotel seemed much better. Thee room was very dark and looked over the back of other buildings. We would not stay there again.

We stay in New Orleans regularly for business and pleasure, so we are familiar with many of the hotels in the city. We stayed at the Alexa in the fall of last year for our first and last time.

The staff was extremely unpleasant and rude. They seemed very put out to even speak to use upon check in. Even the bellhop was sullen and silent.

Our room was small, dark, and cheaply furnished and decorated with broken handles, chipped floor tiles, peeling wallpaper, etc.

We were unable to purchase movies or games via television due to some problem with their system, which was disappointing for our children, since it was rainy and we had promised them some games.

The Alexa shares a lobby with another hotel and you have to meander through very narrow hallways and it is dark and creepy. I do not recommend this hotel to families, or anyone for that matter. There are many other fine hotels that are similarly priced and much more comfortable.

“Good size room but dark”

We stayed for Mardi Gras at the Alexa. The room was large and clean, but it was one of the darkest rooms I ever stayed at, as it faced a small second floor courtyard and neighboring room windows. The desk staff was very pleasant and the cleaning staff were efficient, but did not seem to want to clean the room unless they had to. Twice, the cleaning woman asked us if we just wanted towels or was cleaning required. I know it was Mardi Gras and they wanted to party, but we were paying the average of $275 a day for this place, and at least wanted the beds made. On the second night of our stay, we had a couple next door who came in at 5 AM, made very noisy love, threw a party for several people who slammed the door with every entrance, then had a big screaming fight. The walls are thin, so it all sounded like they were in our room. I just got up and tried to read through it. A few hours later, security, to their credit, did come and they were asked to leave the hotel. The location is excellent. Several of the really good restaurants are doors away. A big deli, though sort of honky tonk in atmosphere, is just next door. If the room had had a little light and air, it would have been just great.

“Everything First Class”

Everything about the Alexa is first class- the location, renovation, furnishings, desk staff, housecleaning, etc, etc. The French Quarter location on Royal Street is convenient to everything. Shared amenities with Astor is a big plus. You won't go wrong staying at the Alexa.
