A friend and I decided to have a girls-only weekend away to celebrate our birthdays. We did a little research on where to stay -- our priorities were a place we'd feel safe, a place that wouldn't cost a fortune, and a place with parking. Although we paid more for the room than we had hoped, this hotel seemed to have competitive rates with others in the area. We liked that it was within walking distance of everything we wanted to see in the Quarter, and was within walking distance to the streetcar line, which would give us access to almost everything we wanted to see outside the Quarter. Really, it was the parking and the location that put this hotel at the top of the list. (Parking costs extra unless you're a member of AAA.)
We had a wonderful room that was larger than I expected. The porter told us the tv remote was quirky and that he'd fix it, but we told him not to bother -- we were there to see the sites, not to watch tv! The tub in the bathroom was too small to use as a bathtub, but it was a nice size for a shower. We had a shared balcony that overlooked the courtyard where the pool was located and where breakfast was served each morning.
The man who worked the front desk in the mornings always seemed sleepy and like he didn't know what we were saying, but everyone else -- from the folks who worked the front desk, to the porters, to the parking attendants -- everyone was very pleasant and very helpful. They suggested restaurants, gave us maps and directions, and were knowledgeable about what places had re-opened since Katrina. They were really great. (Sleepy guy wasn't unpleasant; he just wasn't particular helpful.)
Overall, we really enjoyed our time at the Chateau Hotel. The atmosphere was wonderful and relaxing. We loved hanging out around the pool in the the courtyard before bedtime. The location was perfect, and we didn't have to worry about the car. We hope to go back and take the guys with us next time.
