“Good Deal!”

Garden Plaza Hotel Gatlinburg

5 of 5 stars
Alabama
Jul 11, 2008

When we first drove up, we looked at each other and said this is NOT what the pictures looked liked. The hotel looked very old on the outside. However, we decided to make the best of it and go ahead and go inside. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised! Now, by reading the reviews before going, i was prepared with Clorox wipes and Air and Surface sanitizer. However, our room was updated and very clean. Maid service cleaned the room and bathroom every single day. Most maid services just make the beds, bring fresh towels, and take out the trash. Our bathroom was scrubbed every single day and new sheets on the bed, along with the carpets vacummed. Last year on our honeymoon we stayed at a Deluxe Disney resort and did not get this good of service. My husband and I both agreed that they needed to update the place, but it was a great place to stay! The breakfast was great too!!! The beds are very comfortable with great linens. We also enjoyed the pizzeria and arcade! Overall, we had a great time at the Garden Plaza and will stay again!

Thank you for writing a review after your recent visit to Gatlinburg. We appreciate your giving us an opportunity after reviewing past reviews that you mentioned were less than favorable. We do appreciate all feedback our customers provide, whether good, bad or sometimes just plain ugly. It's the best way to improve our overall services to our valued guests. We'll pass along the positive comments regarding the housekeeping serivces, how much you enjoyed our breakfast and the comfortable bedding and sleep sets. We're glad you enjoyed the Indoor Recreation Center and Pizza Station, they provide that little extra that you just can't find anywhere in Gatlinburg. Once again, thank you so much and we'll look forward to taking care of you on your future visits when traveling to Gatlinburg.

“The Garden Plaza is old and run down”

Garden Plaza Hotel Gatlinburg

Jun 19, 2008

The room has a smell that is not one you can put your finger on but it is gross. We complained and it took about 1/2 an hour for someone to come with spray. We went out for 3 hours and when we came back it still stunk.

When we entered the room upon arrival we called the front desk and they didn't answer so we tried the manager on duty, it was answered by the front desk lady! We told her of the smell and she didn't ask any questions, just said she would send someone with spray.

When we tried to make an outside call we couldn't and no one at the front desk answered again! I called the MOD office again and the same lady, Jewel, answered. She told me to hold on a second - she did something and told me to try the call again, it didn't work so I used my cell phone.

We walked the grounds, it is a big place - 3 buildings, 3 pools, a kiddie pool, 2 hot tubs, sand volleyball, etc. It could be really nice if they kept it up. We see why they lost the Holiday Inn name.

We would not recommend this place to anyone. We would not be staying if there were another openning elsewhere and we didn't live 10 hours away. We looked at another room here but it was the same - stinky and run down.

Too bad Honda Hoot is in town or we would have been outta here!

Our staff wanted to write and thank you for your candid review regarding your recent visit to Gatlinburg. We're terribly sorry that we didn't meet your expectations. Based on the time that the review was posted, it seems that we might have possibly been right in the middle of shampooing carpets in our guestrooms. The moisture residual will linger creating a musty feel to the rooms until they have completely aired. Your comments regarding the front desk staff's lack of interest and the fact there were no other options given will be reviewed to ensure a similar situation will not be repeated in the future. Please accept our sincere apologies for not making your stay all that it should have been. Once again, thank you for sharing your comments regarding your visit.

“Do NOT stay!!!”

Garden Plaza Hotel Gatlinburg

Jun 17, 2008

Although the pools were nice and the breakfast bar was nice that's about it. The Floors were absolutely FILTHY!!! After crawling around our room for 10 min. our baby's knees and feet were literally black. And when you walked on the floor with wet feet in the bathroom it left black marks. This is not only disgusting it's absolutely insanitary!!! Ironically enough 2 days after we got home our baby has come down with hand foot and mouth syndrome. They need to replace all of the carpeting and clean them regularly. We've stayed at a lot of hotels and never the Ritz either and I have NEVER seen carpets so dirty. Unfortunatly because of this we will never stay here again. And by the way, the "restaurant" is only open for breakfast and we never did see the pizza place open.

Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to write regarding your most recent visit to Gatlinburg. We rely on our guests to let us know how we're doing and where we need to make the necessary improvements to our services. We're sorry that we didn't meet your expectations during your recent stay. Our facility does schedule quarterly carpet cleaning of all of our guest rooms and we did complete all of our rooms by mid June. Unfortunately, we're not aware of your room location, but, our exterior rooms will show more wear within the 3 month period. We apologize that our housekeeping staff didn't notice this prior to your visit. Thank you for the nice comments regarding the pool and breakfast bar. Our facility does maintain a daily Manager on Duty for any concern or need you may have during your visit. I'm sorry that I or another of managers did not have an opportunity to address your concerns while at the hotel. Once again, we appreciate your comments regarding your visit and we will work hard to ensure that a similar situation will not be repeated in the future.

“Pretty good for the money”

Garden Plaza Hotel Gatlinburg

On the whole, this was a nice hotel. It was clean and the staff was very friendly. It's an older hotel and it looks it in some spots, but the room was clean. The only complaint about the room was that it was warmer than we prefered. We had it set on 60, but it never got below 73 (I have a themometer on my clock). It got to 73 after we pushed the curtain away from the vent. We were only there 2 days, so it was no big deal.
We went for a swim in one of the indoor pools and it was quite nice. The temperature was perfect and it didn't have an overpowering smell of chlorine. The jacuzzi was really warm and felt nice.
We didn't walk down to the main drag, as it was 1/2 mile. We found a non-paying parking spot on a street behind the main drag. Since it wasn't on the main street, it was quiet.

The free breakfast was decent. The grits were a little under cooked, but there was a nice selection and plenty of food....it wasn't a continental breakfast which was great!

We're not planning to go back...too touristy for us, but it was nice enough to recommend to friends.

“Good time for all!”

After reading the bad reviews, I was very uneasy about staying at this hotel. I brought the Lysol just in case! However, I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The room was not smelly and for the most part clean. There was dust and the carpet was stained some, but no big deal. I knew I wasn't staying at the Ritz.. Our room had a view of the creek and my son and I even went down to skip rocks one evening. The inside and outside pools where clean. Nothing to complain about. The breakfast each morning was delicious also. The trek up and down the hill to the strip was tiring at times, but we considered it good exercise. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Our staff wanted to thank you for your kind words and for giving us the opportunity to take care of your lodging needs after your concerns from past reviews. We will pass along all of your comments to our staff, but we especially wanted to thank you for noting how much you enjoyed being near the creek that relaxes through our property, the delicious breakfast and the clean pool areas. We will also continue to work hard at meeting our guestroom cleanliness expectations, thank you for pointing out a couple of opportunities for us to review. We agree that the walk up and down the parkway can be tiring, especially after a big day of sightseeing and shopping. The City of Gatlinburg has a convenient trolley system so that you don't have to spend time walking or even searching for parking. Again, thank you so much for your comments and we hope that you will consider visiting us again in the near future.
