“Park House was great!”

Park House Hotel

Dec 19, 2007

Was in NY in September for a wedding! It's close to the subway station and is in a very quiet Jewish Area. This is fine if you don't mind taxis and the subway. The price was excellent. When you walk into the lobby area for the rooms it's a bit shabby, but the rooms were huge compared to hotel rooms in Europe atleast. We had a huge sleeping area and a little kitchen area. This was a single room and apparently suite was even bigger. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and the staff was very helpful and friendly. If you need things like blow dryers etc just go ask. Judy and Joe were especially nice.

I had great luck on the phone and through emails with the hotel, so was looking forward to the stay, especially because the price was right. I was disappointed almost from the beginning. The room was a decent size, but, not being Jewish, I received very poor service in every other situation. I was practically raked over the coals each time I returned to the hotel at night. There were always people (maids?) yelling at each other while I tried to sleep. They started this "fun" process very early in the morning. The first day I was there, a maid started coming into my room, even after I called back to
her that I was in there! She came in and looked at my floor, then left. I got the infamous reminder phone call the day I checked out, and I was concerned that they were making me check out earlier than I had been told I could. It appears they just call to make sure their guests are leaving. My breakfast there consisted of toast. I didn't see any other selection. Good news: it's 2 blocks from the subway, so getting into Manhattan or northern Brooklyn is very easy and quick. Oh, and there was a mouse in my room. I probably would not stay there again.

Everything seemed to be ok, but I grew up in Brooklyn and understand some of the holidays and rules they had because the hotel predominately caters to Jewish folks.
It was ok, the room was clean the bathroom & kitchen were new and the air conditioner worked fine. They were in the midst of additional repairs so they apologized for the yucchy hallway. Bring your own extras, why not? the price is right and it was nicely supervised in a safe neighborhood. I´ll be back.

    • Disliked — the hallways were being re done and looked pretty shabby, but i ignored them well.

“Don't bother staying there unless you need a kosher kitchen or a single bed”

The staff at the front were friendly enough but this hotel is bizarre with it's oversize livingroom, a kitchen with no utensils and rooms with only twin beds. When I asked for a spoon the reception at the lobby was cool and never came up with any utensils. They don't care that much for customer service. Another guest at the lobby complained that one of the staff had enterered his room when he had a do not disturb sign on the door to put a box in the room. The towels are tiny and thin and are hand towels not bath towels. If you are a couple, forget about sleeping with your partner in the bed. The hotel staff told us there were no double or queen beds in this hotel. So we had to fit on a twin bed which was the most uncomfortable night, I couldnt believe I was paying for this. Apparently the hotel didn't pay it's sattelite cable bill as the tv kept giving pay your bill reminders if you got a clear tv channel. It was annoying and went worse. We checked out the next day and checking into a normal hotel. Would never stay there again, even if you payed me.

“so-so stay”

The Park House Hotel provided a slightly better rate when compared to nearby, more 'posh' hotels (about $30 less?). The hotel decor was average, a lot of dark colors and wood. There is no free internet access and, notably, no hair dryer in the bathrooms. Also, the towels were extremely small and were the size of hand towels . . I am a size 4 and I could barely wrap one around me. There also was no remote for the TV. I chose this hotel because of location ( I was interviewing at the Maimonides Hospital, which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel). If the location is most convenient and you want the least expensive but clean place to stay, then Park House Hotel may fit your needs.
