“The perfect Enagagement”

Akwaaba Mansion Bed & Breakfast

Nov 21, 2007

Akwaaba Inn is a completely memorable place to stay - we arrived late from the Uk and as we walked into our room the Innkeeper had covered the room with rose petals and candles and even filled up the fab jaquzzi bath with hot water. My boyfriend proposed to me that night and it was the most wonderful setting.

The rooms are full pf character and pretty luxurious at the same time - the breakfast was to die for and sitting round the breakfast table with the other guests added a cosy feel. The only downside of Akwaaba is the location as it's pretty far out of Manhatten and there aren't many restaurants in the area. However, the Inn is well worth a small sacrifice on location!

“A gem in the heart of Brooklyn!”

Akwaaba Mansion Bed & Breakfast

This place is an absolute find. The only downside is that we could only stay one night. Host Delores was as warm and gracious as they come - greeted us with a cool glass of her famous iced tea (she's mum on her recipe!) and warm cookies, while giving us a tour of this beautiful home and making us feel welcome. Book early, only four rooms, and always full. We stayed in the largest room, Black Memorabilia. Everything was simply perfect, quiet, warm and comfortable. Delicious home cooked breakfast. We were a little skittish at first at the location, but do NOT let it bother you. You are more than safe in this area, just be watchful as you should always be when you travel. When Delores gives you the code to return at night after you have been out, make sure you pay attention and give it a try while she's with you, because we didn't and didn't remember how to turn the knob and had trouble getting in but fortunately another couple staying there happened to return at the same time and between the four of us we jiggled it and got in.

“the best new york experience i have ever had in a hotel”

My boyfriend and I were going to New York for 5 days and the cost at the big hotel chains were soooo expensive. His family is in Brooklyn and we wanted to stay near them. THIS WAS THE PERFECT PLACE TO STAY! The people were nice and so accomodating. The breakfast that they cooked everyday was excellent and very large in portions. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and cleaned everyday even when I left things on the floor, bed, etc. Big beautiful historical home. The area was very nice and so close to the subway, it took no time to get into Manhattan. The other guests were a pleasure to talk to around the breakfast table in the morning. All around, the best hotel stay we have had in years.

“treated like a somebody”

Akwaaba Mansion Bed & Breakfast

niagara on the lake

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and my 46th birthday. Ingrid and Deloris treated us like family. While we were in Manhatten during the early evening, Ingrid lined our room with candles( very romantic). We were very surprised upon our return.
Many hotels, you will feel like a number. At Akwaaba mansion, the staff treat you like a person.
Breakfast was to die for especially the french toast ...mmm good.
The subway line ( A ) was only a ten minute walk past some very nice brownstone homes. Times square was a 40 minute ride.
We could not have asked for a better place to stay to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

“A Charming Mansion Experience”

Akwaaba Mansion Bed & Breakfast

I could not have been more pleased by my stay at the Akwaaba Mansion. The property is a labor of love for Monique and Glenn, and it shows. You really have the feel of staying in a period mansion, as the restoration has preserved much of the original hardware, woodwork, etc. The experience is enhanced by the inn's historical focus, with plenty of information and ambience drawn from the both Bedford-Stuyvesant and African-American history. Be sure to spend a quiet afternoon or two sitting in their beautiful and peaceful garden.

The service and staff were excellent, the breakfast plentiful and delicious, and the afternoon / evening treats beautifully presented and scrumptious. It would be hard, however, not to include the innkeepers themselves in any review of Akwaaba Mansion. Monique and Glenn are exceptional people and exceptional hosts. I can't wait to experience their inn in DC on my next trip there.
