“Cute Little Inn/Bed & Breakfast”

The Samuel Sewall Inn

4 of 5 stars
Washington, DC
Mar 24, 2008

I stayed here for Friday and Saturday nights while visiting a friend and her family in Brookline. I can't speak to the convenience of the inn to Boston, because I didn't do any site seeing there. But the inn itself is very cozy. I had one of the rooms on the top floor. The bed was comfortable, and the decoration was not too frou frou or cutesy (although also definitely far from trendy or hip). The bathroom was only adequate -- basically the size of a small powder room, with a fiberglass shower stall, but clean and serviceable. The toiletries weren't anything too fancy. The breakfast was tasty and ample, and snacks were available at other times. This wasn' t the most luxurious place I've ever stayed, but it was very good for the price. The service was also very helpful and pleasant.

Possible downsides. It might be tough for disabled or older people (not sure how they would get up and down all the steps). Finally, this didn't strike me as the most "romantic" of bed and breakfasts -- there weren't a lot of couples on a romantic trip, but rather some families with college-age children, a couple with a baby who was house hunting, a pair of women who were touring Boston.

This is a great place to stay when visiting the Boston area. It's well run, beautifully appointed, quiet, accommodating and comfortable. Reasonable prices too. Wonderful attention to guests ensures that I will always recommend and come back to stay.

“Handy for Boston”

The Samuel Sewall Inn

Nov 19, 2007

The Inn is well located for getting the underground into Boston. There are good restaurants within walking distance so a car is not needed. You can get all the way to the INN from the airport on the underground, but there is one change needed.
The room was well presented, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was taken in the entrance hall where there were only three small tables! So many guests just took their breakfast back to their rooms.
The breakfasts were not much to talk about. When we asked one day if there was any boiled eggs, they brought out from the fridge yesterdays left over boiled eggs, cold and unappetising.
Tea, coffe and biscuits available all day in the entrance hall. There was no lounge in which to relax. The sister hotel Bertrams Inn, just across the road did have a lounge so this may be a better place to stay, but still no proper breakfast room.

“Wonderful little inn!”

The Samuel Sewall Inn

5 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, CA
Nov 4, 2007

Found this place online and read all the great reviews on Trip Advisor, so decided to give it a try. When all the halfway respectable hotels were going for $400-$500 a night, The Samuel Sewall was half that with just as much (and in some cases twice as much) character. Absolutely charming, the rooms are beautiful and very comfortable; ours even had a fireplace (although we didn't have a chance to light it). The staff is friendly and helpful, the location is convenient to the train (and hence downtown) and is only a short walk to several nice restaurant and to Fenway Park. Would definitely stay there again!

“Beautiful place to stay in Boston- a real treasure!”

The Samuel Sewall Inn

Because Boston hotels were so expensive when we wanted to take our 1st anniversary trip, we decided to try a bed & breakfast. My husband and I were both unsure what to expect, but if all b&b's are this great we will travel this way more often!

Location: The b&b is located in Brookline, a great suburb of Boston where Boston University is located. The immediate neighborhood where the Sewall is located is very safe and there is a great area with shops a few blocks away. The "T" stop is one block away, you can't get much closer than that! Hopping on the T the ride into the center of the city takes less than 10 minutes. We parked our car in the parking lot and never moved it until we checked out. Very convenient.

Rooms: Our room was beautiful! On the first floor, it featured a huge king-sized bed and hard wood floors. Private bath was a must for us, and it was beautiful as well. The room had plenty of closet space and drawers for clothing and other items. Bonus was the small refrigerator.
Often times in hotels I strip the bedspread off before doing anything else. Gross! Here I did not get that "been slept on 1,000 times before" vibe at all. It was like staying in a very well kept home, not a hotel at all. You can tell that the hotel staff takes great pains to keep the rooms immaculately clean and cared for.

Ammenities: Breakfast was served from 8-10 every morning. If you woke up earlier than that, there was cold breakfast served. Between breakfast hours they added hot coffee, juices, and a hot item for the day. Monday was the best- make your own waffles!
Surprisingly, our room was very quiet despite being at the foot of the stairs. There must have been kids in every room (we saw them EVERYWHERE) but once our door was closed most of the outside noises disappeared. Very little made it in to us, and it certainly wasn't loud enough to wake us up ever.

Overall the location was great, the room and public rooms were spottless, and we truly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely stay here again if we return to Boston.

Just a side note- if there are no rooms available here, try their sister b&b across the street.
