As usual I waited until the last minute to book a hotel. A friend and I were traveling to Baltimore for the Orioles vs. Red Sox series. We found Rodeway Inn online, It wasn't too expensive (@ 110 per night) which I guess should have told us we wouldn't be staying at a Ritz. Yes, it most certainly wasn't the Ritz, but it made your average Howard Johnson's look like one!
Upon arriving, we realized that it was located in a truck stop! No midnight walks for me. When we went to check in we walked into a convience store/Denny's and to our left we saw a signs pointing to the showers. After having to pin my friend down to keep her from running screaming out the door, we were informed that each room had it's own shower, thank God.
The hallways smelled like something I couldn't even begin to describe, not pleasant though. Our room wasn't much better, it was small, with one tiny window overlooking the roof of the next door building and an overpass of the highway. There was no mini fridge, the a/c hardly worked, the bathroom was terrible, when you stepped into the shower you felt as if you were going to fall through the floor. On our 2nd night we found tiny ants crawling on our night stand!!!!!!
We were going to try to switch 'hotels" but the city was booked because of the games. Luckily we didnt spend anytime there other than to sleep. Theres was always strange men walking around outside at all hours.
The only upsides were that there was the 24/hr convience store downstairs in case of a late night chip craving, and across the street there was a McDonald's and other chain restuarants (KFC, Sbarros, Subway). My advice: take a cab!
We thought staying at a place with only 1 1/2 stars wouldnt be that bad, we are 23, single, unable to afford 4 or 5 stars places, but this was just too much! If someone offered to pay me to stay there I would say "Absolutely Not!!!!"
I guess this is what I get for waiting until the last minute to get a hotel.
