“Stay Away!!”

Rodeway Inn

As usual I waited until the last minute to book a hotel. A friend and I were traveling to Baltimore for the Orioles vs. Red Sox series. We found Rodeway Inn online, It wasn't too expensive (@ 110 per night) which I guess should have told us we wouldn't be staying at a Ritz. Yes, it most certainly wasn't the Ritz, but it made your average Howard Johnson's look like one!
Upon arriving, we realized that it was located in a truck stop! No midnight walks for me. When we went to check in we walked into a convience store/Denny's and to our left we saw a signs pointing to the showers. After having to pin my friend down to keep her from running screaming out the door, we were informed that each room had it's own shower, thank God.
The hallways smelled like something I couldn't even begin to describe, not pleasant though. Our room wasn't much better, it was small, with one tiny window overlooking the roof of the next door building and an overpass of the highway. There was no mini fridge, the a/c hardly worked, the bathroom was terrible, when you stepped into the shower you felt as if you were going to fall through the floor. On our 2nd night we found tiny ants crawling on our night stand!!!!!!
We were going to try to switch 'hotels" but the city was booked because of the games. Luckily we didnt spend anytime there other than to sleep. Theres was always strange men walking around outside at all hours.
The only upsides were that there was the 24/hr convience store downstairs in case of a late night chip craving, and across the street there was a McDonald's and other chain restuarants (KFC, Sbarros, Subway). My advice: take a cab!
We thought staying at a place with only 1 1/2 stars wouldnt be that bad, we are 23, single, unable to afford 4 or 5 stars places, but this was just too much! If someone offered to pay me to stay there I would say "Absolutely Not!!!!"
I guess this is what I get for waiting until the last minute to get a hotel.

“I'll never live it down!”

Located in a truck stop across the street from the Greyhound station (aka "Baltimore Travel Plaza"), this place was both uncomfortable - almost scary - and overpriced. It's poor reputation was well known to the BWI information booth, who warned us of it while they gave us directions to get there. I'd made reservations on the internet well ahead of time, but the desk clerks were confounded by the idea that we wanted a non-smoking room, so it took an extra 15 minutes while they discovered one for us. While we stood there, my sister kept repeating "www.tripadvisor.com" over and over, so here I am!

“Never again!”

I've stayed at some low-budget/no-budget hotels before, but this was just about the worst--especially given the price they dared to charge for the room.

My suspicions were raised from the moment I went to check in (at the convenience store counter, no less). My credit card was immediately charged for the entire 3-night length of my stay before I even was given my key or a chance to see if the room was acceptable or not (and I was not staying at any "budget" rate or special deal, just a regular rate of $85/night for two people). The hallways and elevators looked old and shabby...and the room I received no different. The room safe didn't work (no key), a fact which bothered me given the disreputable look of the clientele hanging around in the hallways.

If you are stuck staying at this dump, make sure to bring your earplugs! Room walls are paper-thin and you will be up all night from the sound of doors banging open and closed, babies screaming, children running about, and/or the conversations and tv blasting in the room next to you.

About the only thing this place has going for it is the huge 24-hour convenience store, which given its a truck stop hotel is no surprise. The restaurant isn't bad--if you can get a waitress who will take your order without griping about her lousy day and it isn't full of chain-smoking truck drivers.

All in all I couldn't wait to leave! The only reason I was stuck here at all was for a convention at the Best Western across the highway, which was overbooked. If I'm ever in a similar situation I'll get a room somewhere in Inner Harbor and pay for a cabride back and forth instead of ever staying at the Rodeway Inn again.
