This is our 2nd time at the hotel since it opened in roughly 2006. The first experience was "busy" but OK.
So I was hoping for greatness during our week long stay -- and got nothing close to it.
We are Marriott Rewards members -- travel with the chain a lot & this stay was booked for a week-long stay.
But we were treated just like every other tourist that sails through Gettysburg for a one-nighter during the peak visitor season: ignored, and maybe tolerated. We are just disposable customers in their eyes. Ouch.
None of our check-in requests were honored. None. This reservation was booked a long while ago. Since when do members get so dissed?
Our bathroom was filthy -- and may I simply pose this question: would it kill housekeeping to actually CLEAN a bathroom & vacuum the darn floor these days? What gives?
This is a PROBLEM at almost every Courtyard, every. single. time. They aren't clean. Ever. I actually bring my own bathroom cleaner, Lysol wipes & Windex. They should be paying ME!
Next on my gripe list is our suprise 6 am wake-up call...because we didn't request it. As much as it shocked me out of sound sleep, I feel more sorry for the poor sucker who DIDN'T get the intended call & most likely overslept. Hope it wasn't his/her wedding day or something.
On the 2nd day of our trip, I went to the front desk during a slow time of the day to "chat" with the staff & let them know they already had 3 strikes one day into my stay.
The nicely dressed gentleman could not have cared less. Didn't even give me obligatory throw-away responses. A few excuses...the stink-eye...an attitude. And then nothing.
Just totally despondent & apathetic. I felt more upset after I spoke to him, just b/c I realized he really doesn't care. And neither does Marriott, it seems.
Lately I've become to believe to the Courtyard Marriott is just coasting along with the expected traveler traffic. They just expect guests, and it shows. How about anticipating your customer? How about at least reading the preference notes in my Rewards profile? I feel like I'm wasting my breath & my money.
I wish the chain would at least TRY to make a stay worthwhile, but I suspect they will ultimately flame out to the next, biggest chain if they continue with this apathy.
Next time we will stay next door at the newer, bigger, nicer Wyndham -- they have rewards programs, too. And I'm sure they couldn't treat me any worse than the Marriott at this point.
I'm kickin' you to the curb, Marriott.
